Trail running is toxic

Yes. There are doping scandals.
Cocktail of Ritalin + cocaine + Ashwagandha root?
Corporate ladder-climber of the brain + velocity component so you don't just see the board, you hear it humming + a tiny organic yoga instructor trying to negotiate peace talks inside the burning reactor core so your heart doesn't explode before the endgame

I do road running now. It's just more convenient.

In Pretoria trail running was fun and safe. Didn't want to run on the roads there. In Cape Town I can run on the roads and the sidewalks.
And you have access to some of the best trail running in the entire planet on your doorstep too. So why not do both?

This is part of my issue with trail runners and the whole community - it’s not said out loud always, but there is this hardcore divide and road runners are looked down on by them, mountain bikers are hated by them. They love complaining about horse **** on the trail left by horse riders etc etc. that is part of the toxicity of that community.

Like why must you be a “”trail runner” , why can’t you just be a runner, who also happens to run in the mountains

You really have some peculiar beliefs.. the whole community nogal
The trail runners I know often run on the road and many also ride MTB.

I don't know where you find all these upright people but perhaps its time for some introspection, maybe your current outlook is attracting the douchebag trail runners, hang with more genuine people and you'll get a better outlook on trail running.

It's a case of convenience for me...I don't want to own 2 pairs of fancy running shoes. Last trail run I did was 2 years ago in Cape Town and it was fun, but getting there and back is inconvenient. I like to just put on my shoes and go out for a run.

I also don't know anyone here that does trail runs. All my runner friends do road runs only.

I haven't had any issues with any running community. Road or trail. I also mountain biked (also quit due to convenience...)

Maybe it's you 🤷‍♂️

Point proven 😂
Guys I do CrossFit
Let’s be honest now, going to the gym with a stopwatch is not a sport. We been doing it for years - it’s called circuit training😂

CrossFit is a great workout and I include a few sessions and workouts time to time, but yeah, wouldn’t do it as a “sport”. You win today. It’s far more toxic than trail running. Only thing worse is Hyrox

What hardcore divide? A lot of runners partake in both trail and road running due to the physical benefits one brings the other. On this past weekend's trail run in Kleinmond, I saw loads of runners running in Two Oceans, Comrades & Cape Town Marathon shirts, to name a few.

You can't seriously think that when you decide to take up running, you have to choose between the two options...

Yeah, OP is clearly mixed up with the wrong people or is manufacturing this issue.

There is a community of athletes that partake in road and trail running, cycling (both on and off road), swimming, Triathlons/Iron-Man's and even hiking- you see familiar faces at all the events.

I have only ever really seen road-runners sticking to just road-running, the rest mix it up in various configurations.

Which recreational sport has the most toxic culture, and why is it trail running???
Rage bate

There are about 50 variations of those Crossfit type sports that are way more toxic.
Then cycling comes in after that, only because you have to deal with them on the road.
Then running clubs, but only because of the nature of the clubs... so I suppose you might gave issues with trail running clubs.

Mostly though train running can be done solo or with a mate, it's only when you try and compete with those 100 miler types who will take it personally when you can't keep up.
