Anyone had experience moving Incredimail from one PC to another? Will be using some of the parts from the existing machine on the replacement PC, so won't have them running side by side. Our reception lady would prefer to stick with the existing operating system so will be reinstalling XP home on the replacement PC. For various reasons, we are not going to try and migrate the drives themselves, opting instead for a clean install. Personally, I dislike Incredimail, but I'm not the one using the PC.

POP or IMAP? IMAP the mail should be there when you add the mail account, POP, just export the .pst file.

Thanks Greg, it was POP, last time I looked. There's masses of stuff including video clips and photos of the kids / grand kids overseas. If I botch this.... I'm dead.

I also need all the stuff in the sent items folder. We refer to it if there's a dispute - you know, the "but you said" type.

Hehehe. Amazing how people get attached to old mail. Maybe get her to save the pics she wants as insurance first.

Incredimail is quite difficult, since the email files are in different locations. In XP they are in the User/Application Data folder. First of all, try copying all files across

Eish. Why won't she use Outlook?

On any normal PC, copying files is a doodle. But not this one. You've never seen anything like it. I had to run a little program on it yesterday to extract the software key. We have the original disk but the key is lost. I sat there for about 90 min. The same program installs and runs to completion in less than 5 minutes on a similar machine at home.

Jirre, this old biddy at reception sure is making your life difficult. Not sure why she is dictating the ITC policy in the company though? Time to move on. No DSP / OEM OS may be legally moved from one PC to the other, by the way. Also good luck re-installing XP, you may have major security and update issues.

Well she's also the boss's wife. Besides, she makes me coffee sometimes and also sees to it i get paid. You know what they say about biting the hand that processes your Christmas bonus, don't you? As far as the legalities go, I don't know anyone that's read more than the first few lines of a EULA, but no doubt you are right. I'm not going to lose any sleep about it though. The software was paid for and if it lives on in a newer machine, the old drive having been reformatted - well think of it as a tribute to XP and how good it is :)

IM has a transfer wizard used that to do a export/import. There is no "free" option exporting to eml or pst. Once your in IM its hard getting the mail to a different client.

I was really going to help you. I promise. But when I read what you were actually trying to do, or rather, what you are trying to export from... I would much rather dunk my balls in acid.

I tried to export once out of Incredimail, got so gatvol that I eventually just told the people that using poor software caused their Emails to get corrupted. Bad to lie, I know...but eish.

Don't suppose you have had any success in the last 12 hours since starting this thread?

Yes, auntie pointed out the little export gizmo today. I think she's been losing sleep at the prospect of me euthanasing the little slobbering dog. I'll report back once I've given it a go. (The gizmo, not the dog). :)

Very funny :) And that reference to poor software may have been truer than you realized.

I did Google Incredimail and lots of people slate it for being rather "virus like". The consensus seems to be it keeps trying to "keep mother in the loop" thereby wasting time and (your) resources. Spent the day rounding up bits and pieces for the new PC so haven't got round to extracting data yet but will certainly report back.

do yourself a favor & clone the drive onto her new one, then spend half an hour cleaning up the system

or

tear your hair out for hours & hours on end until you get to the point where you enter a shopping centre with a crazed look and a loaded shotgun under the arm

Right, well decided to give IM a go. First installed the latest version on the new PC and then tried to update the old version on the old PC, but as it turns out, the update feature evidently leaves the factory, err, well broken. So - it can download your mail, spy on you, and send out adds with your mail but it can't manage an update. Incredible! (Notice my choice of word)

Finally, at about 2pm we started up the Transfer Wizard and by closing time it was still going strong. Was busy compressing the 8000th file if memory serves. Hopefully it will be done by Monday!
