Transparent Proxy Issues

Not only that. But if I try to download from sites like rapidshare or netload or megaupload, I get similar IP errors ("Your IP is current downloading") even though I haven't downloaded a single file from them. I'm guessing when we browse, we go through some kind of proxy which kind of sux. :(

Ditto on that.

Yup, that's what's happening here.

While we wait for the techies to get back to work, here is an alternative link;

ftp://ftp.secunia.com/PSISetup.exe

and some text from the page;

Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI)
FREE PC Security for Home Users

Used by millions of home users around the world.

The Secunia PSI is aFREE security tool designed to detectvulnerable andout-dated programs and plug-ins which expose your PC to attacks. Attacks exploiting vulnerable programs and plug-ins are rarely blocked by traditional anti-virus and are therefore increasingly "popular" among criminals.

The only solution to block these kind of attacks is to apply security updates, commonly referred to as patches. Patches are offered free-of-charge by most software vendors, however, finding all these patches is a tedious and time consuming task. Secunia PSI automates this and alerts you when your programs and plug-ins require updating to stay secure.

Download the Secunia PSI now and secure your PC today - free-of-charge.

from what i can understand, the IP is registerred to iburst and as far as i can tell is used for multiple customers either through proxy or through assigning multiple customers to a single IP

the reason why the IP is 'currently downloading a 70826523 AVI file' and also being flagged as a leach bot because of the constant downloads of multiple and seemingly unrelated files constantly being downloaded by that specific IP

http://www.google.co.za/search?q=196.46.71.251

my IP is, i assume, CT specific as it's based, according to IP searching, in the BoKaap area. it's logged as a known spam harvester, leach bot etc...

i've spoken to the call centre intelligencia about this and recieved a well thought mumbled "uuuuh..."

this is often done on company networks in order to save on static IP's, for an ISP to do this just shows cost cutting intention at customer expense by decreasing the number of connections

You are on the right track but haven't drawn the correct conclusion. All broadband providers do content optimization with Akamei being the most famous and popular. Read http://www.peerapp.com/News/ViewPress.aspx?id=43 about other ISPs.

Next year we will be able to provide transparency as this is what solves the issue with websites with redirecting API's. Until now we haven't been able to do that because of being forced to use unbalanced upstreams.

When is that going to happen next year - January, December? You must hurry up because the World is going to end in 2012 anyway and we want to enjoy WORKING iBurst at least for few days before that.

The shedule for the new transit is 10th January.

Have a Happy and prosperous new year!

Thanks for all the feedback Ronald and a prosperous new year to you as well.

Could you keep us updated on the progress on the transparency issue, as I am still currently experiencing the same problems as before with sites like Hotfile etc.
Once it's sorted on your side I assume I will need to renew my IP to get it all sorted.
Thanks in advance.
