TrapTap: be alerted to all speed traps while driving

If a device warns a motorist of a speed trap and he slows down, or a motorist flashes and warns another one and causes them to slow down, the traffic department should be happy. :p

It has worked for me:
I flashed my lights to warn oncoming motorists of a speed trap.
A cop pulled me over and told me that he was arresting me on a charge of 'Obstructing Justice' because I was warning motorists of the speed trap.

I put on my best innocent look and asked him: "What speed trap? I've absolutely no idea of what you are talking about. I'm not aware of passing a speed trap."

He then asked why I flashed my lights. I told him that I had by accident pulled the wrong lever; my intention was to wash the windscreen.

No ticket was issued.

Only those fines that were issued after being stopped; they are summonses.
Often go to the local prosecutor and do a plea.

And a summons that was delivered by the Sheriff of the Court.
Same as above.

Should be called TrapTap wireless speed trap-warning module since it's not a detector device as it works off a database and users input.

Anyone used an Android app to the same effect? Not Waze - just an app that can beep, etc if there's a trap.

I use aarto and paycity to see the Gauteng fines I have online. Is there a way to check fines obtained in other municipalities online?

Waze Speed alerts are in! Likely you will see the speed limit shown when u exceed it.. U can set it to beep when u exceed it too.. This is pretty nifty and if the limit does not match just log a map issue with the speed it should be +/- pic of sign (kinda depends on road usage, user activity etc as it gets verified by users)

On traps.. U know that skinny tripod speed cam u see left on its lonesome on the road.. Those are likely lidar (uses light instead of radio). Not sure if there are implications on this though but thought it's interesting to note.

When traveling long distance (JHB to DBN) I wait for a car to come up behind me and I just follow. I had an incident on the last trip. A Range Rover and a Merc came up from behind. I moved over to the slower lane, speeded up as fast as I could and just followed them at about 160 or 170 kph. A little while down the road, a cop pulled the Land Rover over and let the Merc and me pass safely.

But you can report these in Waze so that others at least don't get caught.

Except the Waze one's go through a community review. I've reported the deployable one on the M1 North that usually sits behind the 5.4N sign multiple times, but it has never appeared on the map.

Oh okay I figured it was like 1 person says it's there, if another says it's not then it doesn't show up.

You know more Yes than No and it shows up in that location.

Did anyone hear about the Maserati doing 245 on the R21 over the weekend...with a 4 year old on board, imagine if something went wrong? What a mess it would be - nobody would have survived...and what other innocent people would be included?

People just dont think...
