TrapTap: be alerted to all speed traps while driving

think this is some what illegal? same as radar detector

“TrapTap is completely legal and acts like your personal co-pilot, constantly warning you of danger,” said the campaign.

jammer illegal, detector not

ok I'll give you that one - but you're still defeating the ends of justice. the device pre warns you of speed traps / camera's etc. how is that different to me flashing my lights at oncoming traffic, which if my memory serves me correctly is also illegal.

Warning - Alerting speeding motorists

It is illegal to do anything that might alert motorists to a police speed check. Anyone who attempts to give such a warning by flashing headlights or signalling with the hands, for example runs the risk of prosecution for obstructing the police in the course of their duty or attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

Can my wife then also be thrown into jail for defeating the ends of justice?? Because she's ALWAYS telling me to drive slower. I'll tell her next time she does it .. Spiff you're going to back me up on this one, right?

Will report back to the forum next time it happens.

I cant comment on the flashing of lights, my opinion however is flashing brights is not the safest thing to do because other motorists can act/behave too unpredictable.

That said, isn't the whole point of traps to have people slow down, especially on roads that are high accident zones?
If so, then these devices actually help, because those speedsters with it will then slow down in the high accident zones, causing less accidents. Seems like a win for me for both speedsters and the speed enforcement system.

tell you what - give me your wife's number - I'll educate her ;) but send pics first!

I don't make the rules - merely debate them. don't get me wrong I hate cops & speed traps, cause I've done some mean speeding in my 40yrs of riding & driving - If I had a 12 bore shot gun I'd blow every MF camera out of existence.

no sure it will do exactly that. hell maybe it's the cops themselves that are behind it?

Waze does but it can't pick up mobile ones.

Google Maps has never shown me speed traps.

Waze shows fixed cams.. and mobile ones are defined as Police (visible, hidden, etc). Another thing is they recently added speed alerts which has gone live in a handful countries (I've requested this for years now haha) but no clue when this is coming to SA.

I use Waze a LOT as many do up here in Gauteng and I've rarely not been alerted of a cop and then I am i set the alerts. Typically the semi-illegal trip pod cams are about 30-40% marked as drivers can't easily spot it so i usually notice them unmarked (I drive the limit so notice, kinda the fun part of road trip for me is spotting cams when driving to jhb from pta).

Nothing makes my day than an idiot who drives up my behind and then i let him passed just before i cam I see coming up to watch him(or her 30% of the time) slam on the breaks after they next to cam hahaha too late.
