I've got a bit of free time coming up & want to plan a trip. Have any of you guys been to one of these places?

Prague
Madrid
Rome
Venice
Marrakecha
Budapest
Istanbul

About 6 days & just myself (:o). Would prefer something with lots of history so Rome is currently the front-runner. Anything else in the European area (not UK, Germany or Norway)?

Also...ideas on accommodation? Thats the budget killer as far as I can tell. Bit wary of Airbnb but not sure.

Been to Prague and London. London overrated but Prague was really cool. Lots of historical places to see such as palaces, cathedrals etc. also beer is cheaper than water there which can never be a bad thing really.

Been to Istanbul, but the best stuff is outside Istanbul and with with only 6 days you would waste too much time travelling to get to them. I spent 3 weeks in Turkey and saw just a fraction of what is on offer.

Rome does seem to be your best bet.

I've read on a few travel websites that people say London's overrated, high prices and the culture isn't anything spectacular, and that it's better to go to most other "big" cities in Europe. I personally want to go to London once in my live, mostly 'cause I'm a lifelong Arsenal fan but the city just looks so great from my point of view.

Venice and Rome are stunning, lots of culture and history, good food, good coffee, wine, beer and gelato
Loved Prague, also lots to see and great beer
Istanbul you have the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia as well as a few other places of interest
Italy would be my first choice
Just used Airbnb in the U.S. undecided if I'd use it again, I generally use booking.com to find reasonably priced accommodation

Agree with Venice. Loved being there.

I'm going to Istanbul next year March! :D :D :D Cannot wait!

Vast history, food, markets and old vs new lifestyles. It is such an awesome city!

SO went on a Contiki last year that included Budapest and Prague. Couldn't stop raving about both. Both are cheap, too.

But for the historical angle she says Rome and Florence are good bets. Wasn't super impressed with Venice.

Trick with Venice is to go off the beaten track for dining and drinking, sure Rome has so much too see, depends what you want out of the experience, I really enjoyed Montepulciano and Tuscany. Would go back tomorrow

The women in Spain... ZOMG!!!

By far the place I would go to on that list hands down!

For 6 days I'd also consider Thailand, never been myself but still good value for the Rand with lots to see and do

Had planned to go in April but had to cancel

I'd do Rome or Florence.

If you need any help, watch a few travel guide videos by Rick Steves, I'd recommend sticking to the full episodes though. The Italian ones are quite good.

Isn't he the guy that does audio guides that you can download onto your iPod? Think I used his stuff around the Vatican and Sistine Chapel

Yeah, that's the one. He's old school but very good, have watched almost all of his European videos. He's definitely helped my to-do list.
