Treasury asked to probe NYDA

Why not add the Surgeon General to the list? They need some anal probing....

Johannesburg - The Treasury and the auditor general were formally requested on Tuesday to probe the finances of the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).

AfriForum Youth said it had delivered written requests to this effect to both offices.

National chair Charl Oberholzer said it had asked for an investigation into the agency's accounting officer.

"Individuals within NYDA can now be held personally accountable for tax payers' money that is being wasted," he said.

The youth body said it believed the NYDA had contravened section 38, subsection one(C)(ii), 38 subsection one(a)(iii) en (b), as well as section 39 subsection one(C)(ii) of the Public Finance Management Act.

Oberholzer said the AG and the Treasury were obliged to consider the complaint in terms of section 84 of the Public Finance Management Act.

"It [NYDA] has a direct responsibility to use resources generated by the taxpayer in an economic manner."

NYDA chairperson Andile Lungisa said that if AfriForum Youth wanted to know about the youth agency's financial status, it could have come to its offices for the annual report.

"Otherwise... they can go climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro and then roll off it," he said.
