Hey all

We've had a few burglary attempts over the past 2 years in the complex I stay in. I spoke to my letting agent about getting trellidoors installed numerous times and finally the owner of the flat has given the go-ahead.

All I need to do from my side is get a few quotes. So what I'd like to know is what advice can you lot give me with regards to decent trellidoors. Looking for something that has slam-lock.

Are there any other brands worth considering other than trellidoor?

There's Xpanda.

Here in Pretoria (don't know where else) we get something called Homemakers Fair thats a advertising magazine as junkmail in the post, there is always a number of the trellis door companies advertising in it. Maybe something similar in your area?

Thanks for the very few, but helpful tips...I'll do some more googling and see what I come up with ;)

Go with the Trellidor brand if you can afford it. When the skelms broke into my place, the Trellidor locks held, and they had to make to with a 0.5x0.5m² hole under the locks to get their gains out.

We got Trellidor and it is an awesome product, and the service was great - if you overlook the fact that I had to physically throw the area manager out of my house because he was demanding money, even though the burglarbars were the wrong colour and shape, and that they did not screw the door in properly. And they broke the tiles when putting the burglar bars in....

OK, so maybe the service is not so good, but really good product. When the door jammed, and the key got stuck because of the lack of screws mentioned above, they came out and replaced it pretty quickly.

In terms of security though, I don't see somebody entering my house without some serious effort.

Just my 2 cents worth, but have a look at Maxidor, they aint cheap, but guess quality costs, very professional sales guy and the installation we had was like the guy was performing surgery, clean and neat...lol.

3 years on and free yearly services, they work like a dream, just dont slam the gate without having the keys on U.... ;-)

I just recently had Trellidoors installed on the kitchen door and two sliding doors, but they don't do those slam locks that you mentioned - they came up with some sales jargon as to why they didn't do that.

The doors/gates are made in Durban and shipped to authorised installers across the country.

Edit:
Another thread that should be of interest.

Thanks for the link Frankie. I might just end up going with Xpanda.

I broke our Trellidoors with a cricket ball, went straight through removed it off the hinges...
But ye they ok... it was kind old, 1997 I think.

i'd go with Trellidor. not only is the product excellent but they're honestly interested in customer service. we had a problem with our hinge-away trellidor which they repaired free of charge a few months after the 5 year guarantee was up.
