Trevor Manuel on BBC Hardtalk

Do they pay Steven Berkoff to be a jerk? I think ol' Trevor has his failings but he did well in that interview.

ofcourse. Its called hardtalk, not oprah ^_^

There's a big difference between thorough, penetrating journalism and what seems like a biased attack. If you bear in mind that Manuel is arguably the most successful minister that SA has produced since 1994 then why the constant hostility? If the whole point of Berkoff's interviews is to be antagonistic then why not rather interview people that deserve such treatment like Manto and Ivy?

you think manto or ivy would agree to be on hardtalk?
never will that happen... manto refuses to be interviewed by sa media let alone something like the uk media!

I'm not disputing that. I was just surprised by the very hostile tone of the interview with TrevorM.

Its about squaring off against an interviewer who will change into your biggest skeptic, your worst enemy, and the person who supports the other side of any argument. And then we see if you will sink or swim ^_~ Its most definitely a biased attack. Its about how you handle, and answer to the criticisms.

I take my hat off for Trevor’s diplomacy. This guys knows how to handle any situation without conflict.

I do however would like to know more of the international opinion of barbarians like "tantrum" Malema and the split of political direction in the communist/democratic ANC.

Steven Berkoff - Are you confused?

I haven't seen the interview yet but I'm interested.

Sorry, yes, I was confused. I watched an old Steven Berkoff movie last weekend. I meant Steven Sacur (sp?).

I watched most of it. It was terribly boring and Trev just engaged in jargon and doubletalk to try and avoid the hard questions. Not presidential material.

I think Trevor did well. He told investors what they wanted to hear...I think this is what his purpose was going on HardTalk.

Trevor didn't answer the questions, he avoided them. Came off sounding like the clueless ANC propaganda spouting party member he is. Just as Greenspan's policies are being questioned now, Trevor's will be questioned in a few years time.

If you want to see someone "handle" old Steven, watch his interviews with the Nobel prize winners. Every question asked got answered (with references), unlike Trevor, who just refused to answer what was asked, while sitting there with that smug grin, thinking he's soooo smart.

Yeah what he's paid for. Compared to others Manual got off lightly. Still he had Manuel defending Mbeki's aids and Zimbabwe policies :o
