Website, www.deadline.com, reported that the sitcom would be "inspired by Noah's comedy and life".

The half-hour show will be produced by Overbrook entertainment, a company co-owned by Hollywood celebrity couple Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith.

One tweet reacting to the news was from Geoffrey York who said: "Let's just hope Will Smith doesn't turn Trevor Noah into "The Fresh Prince of Soweto"."

Thulani Siyo, tweeted his support for Noah by declaring: "So Trevor Noah has landed himself a sitcom in the states? Now thats ayoba!!!"

LOL standard American way of doing things....
Ray Romano - Everybody loves Raymond
George Lopez - George Lopez

Stand up comedians getting their own sitcoms tend to be more or less bad.

It goes both ways, what about Seinfeld.

I would say good luck to Trevor, but it be a difficult one to pull off. I dont watch a lot of tv, but there are only a handfull of sitcoms which really stand out - the rest are all just taking up airtime.

Am I the only one that doesn't find him funny?

He is a funny guy. His humor appeals to a large varied audience.

The way his shows sell compared to other local comedians is a sign of how well his humor goes down with most people.

I personally think there are other guys who are funnier, but not everybody likes those comedians style e.g. Nick Rabinowitz or Joey Rasdien or Barry Hilton. I know a lot of people who don't like John Vlismas - funny guy but too vulgar for a lot of people.

Everybody Loves Raymond - 9 Seasons
George Lopez - 6 Seasons

doesn't sound like either one was bad....

let's see how long Robin Williams runs for.

Feels he keeps recycling race jokes.

Which South African does not use and recycle race jokes? In fact i could say how many comedians globally dont get into race jokes. Its a comedian staple.

Seinfeld disagrees with you on that one :-).
... and lets not forget Bill Cosby, also one of the greats.

Caught Trevor on QI recently and he didn't come over well, failed to get going even with Steven Fry & Sandi Toksvig doing their best to draw him into the repartee.

One of the best out there. Pity it was cancelled.

Nope.

Pretty much this.

Judging by all the comments, it seems like everybody has their specific preferences when it comes to humour/comedy.

I on the one hand hate Chris Rock and love Jerry Seinfeld.

I think a comedy debate is similar to a religion debate.

As long as it makes you laugh, its good for you.
