after watching the lions tour and the boks in europe (as painful as it was) I have come to the conclusion that the tri-nations as a "product" is dead.

How awesome was it to watch the dirt trackers slug it out with the club sides in the UK, you have the sides wanting to beat the boks, and the new guys in bok jerseys trying to prove a point, granted the results didn't go our way but we learn't so much and it was intense. Same with the lions tour, great to watch the lions battle with the provincial sides and then whip out the big guns for the weekend.

How great would it be to see the boks actually tour NZ and play some of the provincial sides, and vice versa, it would be great to see the All Blacks playing the Sharks, Bulls etc.

Added to this is that you can take or bring bigger squads so you would get to see players playing together that you normally wouldn't.

There has been a suggestion quite a while back, to bring back tours. Tours are not only great for every part of the country, but will increase the popularity of rugby as well.

I say stuff the tri-nations and bring back tours.

Yes it would be great BUT its all about the $$$$$ in this day and age :(

true, but the popularity (especially in aus) is dropping, I find the tri-nations repetitive and boring, imagine if NZ arrived with 45 of the their best players, played the bulls at loftus on tuesday night, and then boks on saturday, are you telling me the stands wouldn't be packed for both and you wouldn't watch that on TV?

Yes but a steady 5 year contract for the tri-nations as with the Super rugby series is a much better (read profitable) venture.

I would also love to see this happen but I am afraid that it just won't :(

Alternatively I would love to see a SA A side tour NZ /Aus / Euro and then play club/provincial sides. Great for seeing who will perform in a higher grade of rugby and also gives some youngsters great experience.

Tri nations as a product dead?

If we fielded our full strength tri nations teams we would thump those club by 30-50 points.

thats not what im talking about, tri-nations in terms of entertainment value, its great but its lost the shine it once had. Strange...we should havealso thumped those two club sides we played this year as well :)

I agree with with you. :)

(That doesn't mean that I believe in lizard people)

TriNations (or QuadNations with Argentina) can be held every 4th year, like the World Cup.

Very true. Tours bring an added plus also in terms of talent. As soon as a player shines against an international team, he is noticed and usually picked for a higher level, i.e. SA A etc. It will really showcase the strength of our talent, plus everyone can enjoy seeing an international side playing against their favourite team.

Honestly the tri-nations bores me. Repetitive and stale. Bring back tours and there will be a lot more interest. Plus it's a great way for provincial players to test themselves against top test players and for other more unpopular stadiums to get some games.

yip, very repetitive, granted the rugby is hard but itiis losing its entertainment value

Even if we send a SA A team to play the provincial sides over seas.

We need to doe something to get talent to come through while also taking some strain from our more senior players.
