@dryburn.macbook - if you can download HTTP links and FTP from TorrentFlux at 40 - 48Kb/s, there's nothing wrong with your connection. I'm currently also on a 384Kbps line, and while SpeedTest rate my connection as 0.2Mbps download and 0.01Mbps upload, I still get my 45Kb/s downloading.

thats the problem im getting 0.10Mbps on speed test and only geting 8-13Kb/s download

not getting a 384 kilo bit line as what i have paid for

torrentflux working again
ftp not up

As previously mentioned, no ISP in South Africa can guarantee download speeds on a shaped uncapped account. We are awaiting feedback from IS with regards to the speed you are experiencing.

cannot guarantee download speed, but what about the line speed, if i pay for a 2L Coke i expect 2L of coke, same with my line speed if i pay for a 384 uncapped connection i expect receive what i have paid for... dont you think?

Has the ftp login been fixed yet or...?

I can log into the normal site but not the ftp: access denied.

@ReubenL

Would it be fair to compare an Afrihost, 4Mbps, shaped, uncapped account to a TRLTech, 4Mbps, shaped, uncapped account on lines that have both experienced full speed on capped accounts in the past. As far as I know, IS is the backbone for both accounts.

No, it would not be fair. Other ISPs apply additional shaping to already shaped wholesale bandwidth. They also have fairuse policies. We do not apply additional shaping to our wholesale bandwidth and we do not have any fairuse policies.

i cant get ftp to work is there something wrong with it?

That doesn't explain how I, during a week day, have speeds of +/- 25 KB/s on my TRLTech account while my friend has > 300 KB/s. That seems to indicate that Afrihost somehow has less additional shaping than TRLTech's non-existent additional shaping.

My experience has been that during a week day, about 7:00 to 17:00, the line is shaped* to +/- 25 KB/s. On the weekend and during about 17:00 to 1:00 on week nights, the speed goes up to +/- 180 KB/s. Between about 1:00 and 7:00 is the only time I get speeds close to, or above, those my friend gets all the time on his Afrihost account.

Is it possible that Afrihost's wholesale bandwidth is less shaped than TRLTech's?

The most frustrating thing for me, is the browsing experience. Which is what these cheap uncapped accounts are supposed to be prioritised for. To elaborate, when viewing an image or video the first few KB of data load really fast and then the rest chugs along. I am basically getting a glimpse of the potential speed of the line I am paying Telkom for.

*I wouldn't strictly call this shaping, because no ports or protocols altogether exceed this speed, but using the word throttled seems to make ISPs very defensive.

Exact same problem on my OW 4096 uncapped account, 25 during the day, 1Mbit after 5, 2Mbit late, and 4Mbit after 2am or something.
