I caved in regarding console gaming, and got myself an xbox360 elite, but cant get the networking sorted out.
goal:
i want to stream media from my pc on the xbox .
setup:
xbox360 elite + bravia
PC = D865PERL with onboard LAN (which i havent really used before)
no router - still using old telkom marconi modem for ADSL
winxp home SP2
windows media player 11
kaspersky internet security 6.0
the situation:
i currently have no aspirations to connect to xbox live UK/US. I just want to stream music via PC to xbox (for now). I have very little & severely limited knowledge regarding networks, port forwarding, firewalls, DHCP etc. will fiddle later with applications like tversity, just want the xbox to see the pc for now.
Connected the RJ-45 cable which i got with the xbox, to the xbox and directly to the PC's onboard LAN. ran home networking wizard - found 'Local Area Connection 4'. in media player, i set media sharing on, shared to xbox 360. (as per instruction via www.xbox.com/pcsetup)
on the console dashboard - at the media tab, still cant find the pc! (though mediaplayer can see the xbox)
checked Local Area Connection 4's settings, set TCP/IP's IP&DNS address settings to automatic. Advanced settings says IP address is DHCP enabled. currently stuck even after skimming xbox-360.co.za & myadsl for threads. (at least i still got bioshock to play)
HALP! would you kindly...
PS if the easy answer is 'get a router & replace the telkom modem', which one would you suggest?
thanks in advance
