Hi

Has anyone else had problems surfing the internet with their 8ta (sim in dongle connected to laptop) while they're trying to download something?

I've been running into this issue a lot lately. I have a Internet 5 Promo contract sim as well as a prepaid 60+60 sim and when I go online at night around 11pm or go online early morning around 7am (over weekends mostly) or even right now 5-6pm in the evening, I'm strugging to surf the internet.

Facebook won't load right. I get "the page can't be displayed" errors all the time. I get timeouts on pages. My downloads run perfectly though.

What can I do or check to see what's going wrong?

I have a Dell Studio 1537 laptop with Windows Vista.

Thanks!

Here is the issue..

In your connection software, change your DNS to 8.8.8.8 and it seems to solve the problem.

The file has plenty of seeders but something is wrong with 8ta.

I tried the dns change to 8.8.8.8 but it doenst work..

Hope this is due to the maintenance.. Anyone else having issues with downloads like torrents?

Since the start of the 'intermittent service interruption' on Thursday evening, I have had virtually NO HTTP web access except for two or three short periods of 30 mins or less in the mornings - other than that - ALL I have had is Skype access - and Whatsapp via my tethered cellphones.

During this period, strangely enough, Windows Updates carried on as usual as well.

Why did 8.ta NOT send ALL their clients an SMS informing them of this 'service interruption' beforehand, instead of us being frustrated by NOT even being able to send e-mails or get to their website to register a complaint regarding this issue?

It seems to have FINALLY returned to 'normal' this evening at about 20h00 or so, so hopefully 8.ta's internet connectivity has been restored to 'normal' functionality once again!

My service was working perfectly early hours of the morning(Sunday) and once again I am struggling to visit other sites that are not on TelkomSA IP Block. For example going to MTN, MWEB websites doesn't load at all just says loading page title shows but nothing else and has been ongoing since Thursday.

I noticed what also helps is to reconnect to the network. It is network maintenance they're caring out and one of the guys working for Telkom did mention on the forum that one of their Peering links is congested.

Please don't tell me now that Telkom have launched uncapped internet that their backhaul cannot manage due to congestion.
It's ridiculous and uncapped 8ta Rep could of mentioned something. It's not only me that is experiencing this problem but several people don't Telkom/SAIX liaise with 8ta Department stating they going to be doing network maintenance. I have even asked a friend who is with MWEB to visit Telkom/MTN website and he states they don't want to load at all..

It's a peering issue.

Hi I'm from Durban area, sunday morning 8ta speeds was flying, was back 2 normal, then came afternoon speeds dropped again and now monday and I'm still gettn speeds of 10kb/s download. 8ta said monday(2day) problem will be solved but still not working.

Same issue here... seems like they running maintenance again I cannot visit facebook website and other international websites once again. They doing maintenance in the evening hopefully it will be resolved soon or else I am porting elsewhere

I swear they've then been running maintenance basically since December. I was online last night again. It was around 10pm. My torrents ran fine, but don't even try to open Facebook or Google or anything. I actually turned off my firewall and that helped a bit with the speed, but it still wasn't fantastic.

Don't get me wrong. A big chunk of my data I use for downloads, so it's all good that my downloads still run fairly fast. But when I'm sitting there at 10pm at night I would like to surf the internet too and right now that's basically an impossibility.

Is 8ta still on maintenance? I still can't download anything, speeds are like 30kb/s, compare to 200kb/s. I'm in the Durban north area.
