Hey everyone,

I have been using an iBrust desktop modem connected directly to my PC via USB for ages and have always had very good speed and stability - no problems.

Now my wife has an iPad and I would like to create a wi-fi hotspot at home, so I got hold of a D-Link 615 router from a friend and set it up using the setup wizard:

- iBurst modem is connected to "internet" port on the router
- PC is connected to "LAN port 1" of the router

Here are the problems:
- the wireless seems to work ok, even if not consistently fast on the iPad but it is reasonable. Would a better positioning of the router and/or modem help?
- the PC is DEAD slow ... takes about 10 minutes to open a forum page (when at all) - what could be the problem here?

Also, if someone could guide me on some software to check things like signal strengths and speeds that would be cool

And, how do I setup a password on the wi-fi so that the neighbors can't just "tap-in" :)

Thanks in advance
Victor

Not familiar with router but some pointers:
- make certain that the MTU on the router is 1392
- make certain you have the latest firmware loaded for the router
- doublecheck the signal and modem positioning
- an omni always makes things more stable

Ronald put instructions up a while ago which could be used to view the modems web interface to monitor the signal, not sure if it will work with a router but I'll post a link to the instructions if I can find them again.
