Trusteer Rapport - how to completely get rid off?!

Hi all- I'm a lurker on this forum but have an issue I'm hoping someone can help out with. I downloaded some software on my laptop and it's really screwed my laptop up; I'm so pi$$ed off! My O/H banks with NatWest (here in the UK), and for online banking they suggested we download some security software called Trusteer Rapport. Well, since then my laptop has been crashing left and right! I uninstalled it and then, following directions on the Rapport website for troubleshooting, I went into several places and deleted the Rapport folders (one of the places was the hard drive). Things seemed a lot better... but then again, my laptop started crashing. It sometimes takes many tries to get up and running and then when I do, I never know how long before the next crash- sometimes a few minutes, other times a few hours.
I'm thinking of taking the laptop in to be fixed- can it be fixed or is there something else I could try?
My laptop is getting older, almost six years, and is starting to overheat more often. So, I'm wondering if it's even worth fixing or if I should just buy another one.....

Because the bank recommended this software, I didn't research it first. Learned a lesson the hard way. Wouldn't have touched it with a barge pole after all I read about it.
Stay away from Trusteer Rapport!

Run ccleaner and also have a look at autoruns to remove all the places where the software is starting up.

What exactly happens when it crashes? BSOD? What OS you running? What Service pack?

Ahhhh Trusteer, we know it well (and a pox it is too!). Go read there, maybe have a laugh (and feel better for not being alone).

Then, maybe run CCleaner (do NOT install the verkakte Yahoo! BHO-parasite when you install it! (or do, it's only your PC you're (further) infecting...)) ;) ..or go LARGE ("nuke it from space, it IS the only way to be sure...") with Revo Uninstaller Pro (you DO want the Pro for it's sheer depth of features and, once you've cleaned out you won't have to care about the 30-day trial anyway)

If'n you still have hassles, you know where to find us. As it is we love to help and on this one we're especially eager to smack it around.

Their developers really should make us a removal tool to clean up the mess.

Like Symantec had the decency to do for their resource hogging sh*t consumer product that never uninstalls properly or completely.

Thanks for the replies, I will take your suggestions on board and see what happens. When I went on my laptop today, it continually crashed before I could even get on the internet. I'm running it now in safe mode, see how long this lasts.
Just so pissed off with Rapport- they know that loads of people are having this problem, yeah Wizard, you're one of the lucky ones, trust me!
Will post this now before it goes again.
Thanks for the suggestions.

SamanthaK, don't forget the sheer splendiosity that is Windows 'roll back', properly known as 'System Restore' - take your poor benighted, blighted box back to the heady WORKING state that is pre-Rapport... :p
