Truth behind Comedy Central and CliffCentral break-up

“We felt initially that an additional television audience would expand our reach, in reality, it was holding us back from doing the crazy, fun, provocative stuff we needed to be doing with our new platform,” said Gareth Cliff.

We are all holding our breath...oh wait...no.

Seems like Gareth Cliff is getting a lot of free advertising with these articles.

I for one am interested on how viewer numbers were determined since it is no secret that any broadcast statistic where you just pump out content with no data on who actually watches/listens is pure speculation at best.

It's easy to confirm that 10 people are listening to an online video/audio stream; how does Comedy Central, or any other 1-way broadcaster, actually determine viewer/listener figures?

Special decoders that record behaviour for a representative sample of viewers. :)

I have heard about them but have never seen one or met somebody who uses one.

I guess it's good that they remain positive.

They should try their best to make it against the odds. I for one will not do what they did. They put their money in something I honestly don't think has a chance of working. Not unless they can invent an income stream. Sport is a better bet. Ballz has it nailed. What can CliffCentral offer for cyndication perhaps? I don't see the money stream...

it's the nielsen method of collecting data isn't it?

My thoughts as well - how do they determine these figures?

I'm one of them. There's a little modem attached to my decoder that monitors it. We're called "panel" subscribers
