I want to test the speeds I get from VC. Bought a 4U prepaid sim, put R 10 airtime on it and popped it into my SW 850 datacard. The settings for Vodacom South Africa was available on the card's dropdown menu and looked right (Apn = internet). The card saw the VC network with 5 bars of HSDPA. Pressed connect and connection was denied.

Is a VC prepaid card automatically provisioned for HSDPA or do I have to do something? maybe just wait?

CAll 155 and ask them to check if the SIM is enabled for data. Once you're connected try this speed test: http://speed.vodacom.co.za. Anything more tha 384 in the downlikn or 64 in the uplink shows you're on HSDPA.

155 never connects

Tried 111 and they transferred me but after 15 min. had enough. Dialling 155 myself does not work.

That's weird - maybe there was a problem getting through to 155 this morning, but I called 155 just now [selected option 3 and then option 0 and then pressed # for a callback], got a callback about 30 seconds later and was connected to a 155 Data Helpdesk agent, also got an SMS to inform me that I should wait for the callback otherwise calling again would cancel the callback - the SMS actually came through after the actual callback.
SMS from Vodacom said:
Thank you for selecting our call back service. If you call us back before an agent has returned your call, your request will be cancelled.Vodacom at your service.
