I would ask them to provide the noise level readings done by a certified official at the fence. If this reading is greater than 7dB over ambient, then I will concede and do something about it. I would then at the same time complain about his vehicle, dog(s), and TV. A dog outputs 90dB, human conversation is 60dB. The generally accepted level for human noise comfort is 55db by day and 45dB at night.

PTA regulations are 5dB above ambient. You’d not be able to use your own measurements. One would need to use a registered acoustic engineer or the states.
Dog noise complaints need to be 6 minutes per hour, and very difficult to prove.

This depends on the power factor of what you plug into it, which is why they state power in va not watts

I was replying to a post that stated the genny only has kW on the label and no kVA.

I have the below generator, it is bigger than other 6-8Kw generators, but not by that much and is still relatively portable. I decided to go with this one as I was looking for one that I can run my geyser, on if necessary, while still being relatively quiet. Unfortunately, it is not as quiet as advertised.

Have a 9kw sticker printed, slap it on the tank and call the inspector and tell him you downgraded.

This Is not going to work, my generator is a 9kW/12kVa unit, which I have told the rep.
But they keep on with their story that the regulation states a max 10kVa.

All the regulations they have sent me and everything I could find online so far only mentions the kW rating, with no mention of the kVa or power factor rating.

Build a noise-deadening enclosure,borrow a smaller gen and send proof,then swop back. Neighbours won't hear as much and everyone be happy
