Tshwane mail centre completely stopped by striking workers

Hi there,

It's insane that I haven't been able to find any evidence of this strike anywhere. I guess it's just that time of the year...

But I posted an EMS letter to Australia on the 12th of October. Today is the 24th of October and the letter is still somewhere between the Highveld Park post office and the Tshwane mail centre. On the day of postage they told me that they are currently affected by the truck driver strike. That was resolved on the same day. Now 2 weeks later I wanted to track my letter and found it heavily disgusted that it hasn't even left SA.

The guy was basically disappointed that they had done so much for these people to get them into contracted positions and now they go on strike again! :(

SA Post Office illegal work stoppage

Mail distributiopn in and around Pretoria has come to a hault because of an illegal work stoppage by casual workers at the Post Officer's Tshwane hub. Workers downed tools at the beginning of October, preventing almost all mail from going on to its final destination, due

Ah cool, glad it is at least making news somewhere.

Freaking annoyed at myself for thinking that EMS would be better. Won't be making that mistake again. Paid R250 for it, and two weeks in time.

I would be lodging a complaint with SAPO and trying to get your money back.

Yeah I've thought about it, but it's hard to do from where I am at the moment. Also hard to do if they don't answer any of the 10 gazillion numbers I've found for EMS.

Mail delivery returns to normal in Tshwane

We can confirm that the dispute in question has been resolved between the SA Post Office and striking casual workers. The SA Post Office expects the Tshwane Mail Centre to resume to its full functioning capacity in the next few days. Simultaneously, contingency plans have already been put in place to speedily reduce the backlog.

Ja, I'm thinking of cancelling all my magazine subscriptions because every second month I end up buying two magazines because they don't arrive on time. The Post Office can do without my business.

Man it's a pity to say, i thought I would never say or think it, but I AM ASHAMED TO BE A SOUTH AFRICAN in the eyes of the world, or maybe I must be glad and thank someone that the Government and the vast majority do not recognize us as Africans or even South Africans.

Yep, I'm 100% with you on that. Today I had two foreign colleagues ask me explicitly how it is going in SA... I'm not going to lie to them.
 
This article had me worried cause I sent a parcel in the morning before reading this from JHB to some weird place in the Cape - but checking now I see it has arrived at destination so everything working fine.

Still no answer on 011 961 6006, or 011 961 6039. Note that these are the customer care numbers for the PRIORITY EMS service... I guess they are still not working.
