Is anybody out there making any use of the Tshwane MetroFi

Forgetting about the possibility of Internet Access and using the dialer, I can envisage a lot of other services possible without using the dialer. VOIP, Games (for those who do the gaming thing) IRC or whatever else at no cost.

I'm in Moreleta Park in pretoria (Near Wekker street) and can get a 2MB/s signal with an external antenna.

The info on the tshwane MetroFi site is sparse but they ARE providing a good backbone and if enough people are intersted, the community can add a lot of value added services.

Have a look at http://10.11.1.225
and tell me how much of the page you can see. Also try the "Graphs and Gauges" link on the top left hand side and tell me how much you can see then.

That IP is a private one, only available to people connected, and using the Metrofi network!

Ryder,

Yes, sorry I forgot to mention that it is an IP address not available from the internet but only from MetroFi when connected.

I have connected to it many times, cant get the dialer to work though...

You're not too far away from me, and i think you have LoS to me :)

I cannot Get the dialer to work either. Have tried both the supplied dialer and configuring L2TP manually without success. I'm not really concerned if the dialer works.

i have tried everything, seems to be broken?

lns.metrofi.co.za doesnt link for me..

I get great speeds to it, 2ms pings, 36mbit.

MetroFi seems to be located near Hillside road, Lynnwood, if you can link there, chances are you'll be able to join the wug.
