Tuks students warned about liking or retweeting hate speech

Total BS. Get your security to do your job and stop targeting freedom of speech.

I can imagine a new 1st year module soon, how not to be an ass hat on social media

Chimp out, burn stuff and damage property = A-OK.

Type the wrong letters on a keyboard = Expel, criminal and civil action. Truth is stranger than fiction.

Students and staff should take note that not only posts or retweets bit also likes, tagging and retweets of posts on social media which incite violence, harm or constitute hate speech are in contravention of the university’s disciplinary code: students and South African legislation and constitute grounds for criminal and civil action,” the message said.

But painting anti Afrikaans grafitti on walls is acceptable and not subject to criminal and/or civil action?

I get the liking and retweeting but what if a friend tags you in a post you don't agree with and you don't have the setting that allows you to approve posts before they get on your timeline turned on. Its not like YOU said it or are expressing any agreement.

or getting tagged on social media posts
So they're going full Nazi on this apparently. Punish people for just being associated with someone who says something racist.

The university further advised students not to allow their names to be tagged in posts that contravened the code.

The message also said students were “personally responsible for the use of your name on and social media platform. If your handle or name is attached to certain content, you are responsible for its publication”.

1) Post a picture of Hitler
2) Tag UP's Facebook account
3) ???!?!!
4) Profit?

This, and don't dare to photo bomb the wrong picture. You might get tagged and expelled for being in a random picture. :wtf:

I don't believe they understand how to manage the situation. They should rather double the security and get those rubber bullets and pepper sprays ready for the violent types. There should be criminal charges placed on those who paint on real walls and cause real violence and damage. For some reason it's okay to burn tyres and damage roads and buildings in this country.

They are now trying to silence everything. Good luck with that. It has always work in the past :erm:

Jisses, really? :erm:
Well, "get" this... imagine "liking" a post during your hormone driven dumbass teenage/adoloscent years and getting a criminal strike on your name that stays there and needs to be investigated whenever you want to work for a company that does screenings, for the rest of your life ...lovely

Neverming actually liking something, what happens when you accidantsally "pocket dial/like" a racist post or any other post that Big Daddy doesn't like? How the hell would anyone be able to prove you did it on purpose?

This is completely and utterly insane. Politically correctness will be the death knell of western liberal ideals as we know it.

Yes. If you're liking or retweeting a post then it means you agree with it. You might as well have written it yourself and if its hate speech then deal with the consequences.

Retweeting doesn't always mean agreeing. Some people retweet stuff to show how stupid/funny/ridiculous a tweet is.

Yep, if you spread or give hat a platform, you are as bad as the person who created the image

The whole white genocide drama exists because people passed on the bull**** in the first place, to the point that americans think we're dodging bullets every day on our way home

This is silly. Liking (on FB) and retweeting does not necessarily signify endorsement. I might retweet something vile in order to merely alert my followers to the fact that somebody else said something vile. This is like saying that merely reading Mein Kampf (to gain insight/study/etc) means you are definitely a Nazi. Not the kind of assault on free speech you would expect from an institute of higher learning.

Jirrefok, I fully regard marxist snowflakes like you to be the real enemy...with actual racist etc. rhetoric extremely far down the list.
