FCSA has just partnered with RGM to produce a 210 kW version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV TCT. It's a R25k increase in price but it retains your factory warranty. The car sounds epic and goes pretty damn well, just the price of the mods is less than R25k if you do it outside of them.

I'm confused though.. If you mean their prices are higher then most places then I'd argue isn't that just business.. :confused:

Thought you had a story about some fitment that went horribly wrong resulting in your car blowing up.. To which they refused responsibility for.
 
Does anyone know were I can find a place in JHB that does turbo installations and ECU adjustments for the turbo?

I could like to add a 0.25-0.5 bar turbo to my Citroen C2 1.4, not to make it fast or so I can show off. The fuel economy isnt really that good for such a small light car.

A bit more low end power will do wonders.
Turbo will give you less low end more top end power. Sell It and by something faster. Will work out much cheaper.
 
Explain why you would need to make the fuel richer if you are just forcing more air into the intake.
because the more air you force the more fuel the computer injects. airflow meter + ecu = injectors injecting more fuel.

edit thats not the richness answer. actually an explanation for why heavier on juice.

Doing an aftermarket turbo/supercharger on that small engine is simply not worth the expense and the frustration.

It will always be cheaper to buy a car with a larger engine or a later model, and this will give you better fuel economy.

Cons
-They will take the car away from you for some time.
-Mostly likely this is a once off conversion(i just do not see this as being common). This means they will learn the skills on your car. this equals more issues

-Also this will not be bolt on, it will be a custom fitment.

-Low down torque is not a turbos strong point. Supercharger works better.

-Most turbo conversions are badly done, unless you have big amounts of money to do it correctly.

-Car will be harder to fix, if there are issues, most mechies will not know what to look for. This equals more cost.

Why does the car run richer.

Normal N/A car run mostly at 14,5:1 AFR. This gives best fuel consumption and power.

RSA is HOT. Heat is bad for turbo engines. Turbos put more heat into combustion chamber

Many well tuned turbo cars run 12,5:1 AFR. This is already richer than N/A. Most after market turbo conversion run in the 11:1 range. This is to protect the engine. This all means more petrol usage. But you will get more power. Excess fuel is put into the combustion chamber to absorb heat(this is a common strategy) This fuel is mostly dumped out the exhaust(unburnt).

Richer = worse consumption.

Other consumption issues


Most cars have a feedback loop to reduce fuel consumption, when possible.

MOST budget turbo install use a cheaper piggyback ECU and this uses a static fuel map. There is no a/f correction being done. There is no feedback loop.

For instance my subaru does approx 20L/100km. However I have been doing a 170 km roundtrip recently(everyday). It is now doing 7,8L/100km at a steady 100kph. Long drives burn off the carbon and give you better fuel consumption.

Short drives=bad consumption.

Other info.
The turbo plumbing is really the easy part of the job. Setting up the ECU map to run well and with OEM type refinements, is a real challenge, most mechies are not up to this task. You need to get a guy that specializes in ECU remapping. And even then he is going to be limited by the small options in the lower end of the market.

EXAM cram notes:
-Live with the current fuel consumption
-drive using less throttle
- buy a bigger engine.
-Do not even consider FI on that model.
 
I think getting a turbo for this car isnt such a good idea, ill look at other options.

Maybe remapping, polished crankshaft and head porting.

Your car cant handle the extra turbo, engines too small and turbos suffer in jhb,

If you really still want, actually buy a car that can be tuned, like a m3 or something with a bigger more sturdy engine,

Btw, you didnt happen to drive a picanto 1.1 before this?
