Turkey invades Iraq

Now we know why the undersea cables were cut.
10 000 Turkish troops supported by jet fighters are entering Iraq.
Latest news is that they are 6 miles into Iraq.
 
On behalf of who? US or Iraq or themselves??

Their excuse is that they are attacking dissidents.They are hunting Kurdish pkk rebels.
U.S. are concerned as they fear it would destabilise the region.

Turkey has the second biggest army in NATO.
The American and the Iraq governments were informed about the incursion into Iraq.

For that to happen the region would need to be stable first, eh?
 
You know Kurds are fighting for autonomy the same way the KLA (Kosovar Albanians) did, except historically unlike the Albanians who invaded Kosovo years ago, the Kurds have always been where they are. I don't see anyone bombing Istanbul though.

If Turkey OK's the independent KOSOVO why don't they OK they're own Kurds to
live independetly?

The bombing of Istanbul will start soon enough.
They are Islamitic extremists,aren't they?

I'm sorry but you have your history a bit off. The Turkish/Kurdish struggle
has been going on for decades and this is just another phase thereof.
There won't be any more bombing that has been already, I was
wondering why doesn't the West stand up for Kurdish rights?

Obviously we know the answer.
1. Turkey big ally so it's ok to let them do what they want, but not let them into the EU.
2. Turkey is a big country- bombing them would be stupid and would
probably tax all of NATO's resouces to breaking point, notwisthstanding
that Turkey is a big part of NATO.

But it's OK to bomb Serbia.... since they're
1. Small and upstart (ie don't want to be dictated to).
2. Supported by feeble Russians.

Funny thing is that Kurds are like probably the only pro-Western people
in Iraq - maybe Iraqi Christians too. The West was happy to support
them a little in North Iraq by making a no-fly zone there for Saddam's Hussein elite air forces ;) but now the Turks are going to go in
cause a mess.

Iran is a big supporter of Kurds too BTW.

It's difficult for any modern army to fight in the mountains.

the cables have been cut for a while ... and only now they go in .... typical bureaucratic planning for u :) .... also .... y even bother with the cables .... not like anyone in iraq can actually use them ... they more busy trying to stay alive than download ***** of the net :D

I do not know how to get the newsitem from news24 into the forum,and had to rely on memory to make the post.
As i am an old man the memory is not what it used to be.
