I’m CLUELESS when it comes to streaming movies and series etc via a media box (if that’s what it’s called).

How does it work? What hardware and software is required? Where do you stream from?

I’ve got an Apple TV, Netflix etc.

Your Apple TV can connect to WiFi. So if you want to watch Netflix, you need to register first (easiest to register on Netflix website on PC) . If you don’t have an Apple ID yet, you need to register for one too.

Then plug in your Apple TV and connect it to your tv and use the menu to sign in with your Apple ID. You also connect it to your WiFi network. Then you go to the Netflix app and then login and should work.

It sounds daunting but the menu is very easy to work with

Ah, sorry I think I misunderstood your question!! You want to stream and already know how to use Apple TV. Unless you jailbreak your Apple TV, it’s not going to be easy to do. I know a lot of people use Kodi for that - I personally don’t. I like to stay legal.

So what does Kodi do? Pirate movies or legally stream? From what source?

No Kodi is a media player app, just like Windows Media Player, VLC and the like. But there are 3rd party addons that allow you to access content on the internet. Some allow you to access legal content, other allow illegal content.
