I agree with this. As an individual working in television broadcasting; the cr-p that is transmitted is shocking. Repeats and thousands of promos that annoy the living sh-t out of me, as an employee. Cannot imagine what the millions of viewers who subscribe to pay and free to air tv have to say. Personally, I stopped watching TV, it's become monotonous suicidal nonsense.

Disclaimer: I do not work for the national broadcaster, although I wouldn't mind driving a Mercedes AMG using the "petty" cash on disposal...

What SANCU says will have no impact whatsoever on what the SABC does. This has been suggested by many people long before now, yet it has never happened.

I think Aguna has unintentionally opened a can of worms here by raising the topic at a time when the public is very anti-SABC. Hopefully he's raised a topic which will end up (correctly) with the total scrapping of this useless relic. Key viewers - older people and rural people without broadband - are the one's who watch SABC and can least afford it.

Because the act has never come under review. Outa is working on it. Sancu has made a mistake here as the Sabc would likely try to backtrack now. They should have waited and supported the act being reviewed and only made these statements at that time. You don't give away your war plan to the enemy.

Not so. All the Telecommunications Acts, The Broadcasting Acts, the IBA act and the Act of dealing with the SABC underwent extensive review after 1994. In the case of the Broadcasting Act, the review was triggered very specifically to address "State Interference" and to bolster the Act to prevent State Interference. Yet Since 1994 we have experienced the most sate interference ever seen in the doings of the Public Broadcaster ......
