Hi folks,

I want to mount my 43" TV, and I'm undecided on which bracket to go with. There's a power outlet right above the centre of the TV cabinet, so I don't want to mount the thing in the middle because I don't know where in the wall the wiring runs. I'd rather mount it off to the side (previous owner of the house also had their TV mount there) with a mount that can swivel so that I can centre the TV above the TV cabinet. This will require an arm that's longer than 25cm though. Given that it's up on the wall, I also want a tilting bracket.

Barkan and Ellies seem to be the most popular brands. Any thoughts? I've been looking at these - https://www.ellies.co.za/product/double-arm-full-motion-66-165cm/ and https://www.barkanmounts.com/products/TV-Mounts/3300.

If anyone has one of those Ellies brackets, can you tell me how the VESA mounting arms connect to the main bracket without risk of the TV coming crashing down? My DYI skills are sufficient for basic home maintenance, but I don't want to risk trashing the TV.

Cheers.

I bought a similar bracket from Hifi Corp. Use stronger bolts to hold the bracket onto the wall.

I always go with Barkan mounts where possible, the presentation of the instructions, packaged parts, super sturdy quality and sometimes included mounting templates have made these jobs a treat for me.

For my larger TV I have a dual arm type mounted up for tackling a bit of an awkward corner, but I see the bracket with 'spider legs' is the same in this single arm, you definitely won't have an issue as they're fully adjustable for like 10 kinds of TV backsides and fit with double screw grips nicely.

My sister asked me to install a wall bracket for her old Samsung 42" LCD TV. I did some research as to which bracket would be suitable as the TV weighed 28Kg and was rather bulky. After searching and reading various specs, I decided on the following bracket:

26”-55” ( Plasma & LCD)
Solid heavy gauge steel construction & durable power coated finish
Universal slim profile Plasma/LCD wall mount
Lift and hock design makes installation easy and fast
Compatible with all hole patterns including VESA Standard
Screen size 26” – 55”
Weight capacity : 45 kg / 99lbs
Adjust laterally even after installation
Installation manual and fittings included - No assembly manual included!

I proceeded to mount the bracket on the wall and once done, hooked the TV onto the bracket. To my surprise and disappointment, the TV tilted forward and would no hold the weight of the TV. The bracket just bent and was ideal if you wanted to lay on your back on the floor and watch TV! Needless to say, I returned the bracket and got a refund as it was clearly of inferior quality (made in China) and not fit for purpose.
Lesson learnt that not all brackets are equal.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm leaning towards the Ellies one, simply because the only Barkan bracket that I can find that can tilt and swivel with a sufficiently long arm is a much fancier one at about 3x the price of the Ellies one in my first post.:crying:

I got some flat bracket 11 years ago for my 42" Sinotec, this thing has now in that time had 5 TVs on there, scary thing is the 65" is the same weight as the 42"
