Hi guys,

I am hoping you can help me out.Right now i want to setup my secondary pc with a cheap tv tuner for the time being,
the TV tuner is the "DANY T.VIEW TV Tuner with FM PCI Card" which i can get at a local pc shop for about R400-R450.
I don't really have access to buying products via online stores atm,so it will have to be local pc shops.

Right, now to my question. Once i have this TV tuner, would I be able to connect my standard dstv decoder to it?
The dstv decoder is an older one, single view, model number : D5D 933,it basically has a power cable, the satalite feed
and the RCA ports (i think that's what its called, for the yellow, white, and red cable). Would i be able to get some
signal splitters and be able to watch/ record dstv with this TV Tuner? The ports the TV tuner has are as follows...
TV analog connector (I'm assuming that's the normal Ariel) ,S-Video, Composite Video, Audio In and Audio out.

Thats about it really,I apologise if this is a very long post, and if i have my information mixed up.can somebody please help?

Thanks :)

Yes, you should be able to do it with any TV card. The DSTV decoder provides a channel on the aerial (UHF signal) that your TV card can tune. Obviously, you will have to change channels on the DSTV decoder manually. but you will be able to view it on the PC, and save whatever it is you are watching.

Okay, after some reading around,i have found that you get various types of connectors (okay im not sure if my original post,or this entire thread is in the right location, if it isnt, i apologise, and could somebody please move it to the right section. Thanks)
Well i could split my dstv decoders rca ports with something called a "2 RCA Female to 1 RCA Male Adapter" so that one set of yellow, white and red cables goes to my tv as normal. That leaves me with the other set(assuming this setup even works like that).
With the other set, would i be able to plug the yellow(video signal right?) in to the Composite video port on the TV tuner?would that give a video signal at all or am i sorely mistaken?:(...which leaves me with the audio.
This particular TV Tuner has a 2.5mm stereo audio in port.Do you get an "RCA to 2.5mm Adapter/Converter"? or would it have to be something like RCA Female to 3.5mm Male converter, then 3.5mm to 2.5mm converter?Would that even work?

Thanks guys

Sorry, I only saw you post after i posted my second one RoganDawes.
I mean my normal dstv decoder doesnt have that Aerial type connector at all(coaxial cable I think).it only has the yellow, white and red type connectors.
What i meant to say was,While the TV Tuner has a coaxial port, the dstv decoder doesnt have a coaxial cable line out.so basically i have to use the yellow, white and red cables. To make things easier,i should rather ask...Would it work if i plugged the yellow cable from the dstv decoder into the video card "composite video" port, would it give me video signal? and as for audio, would a (rca to 3.5mm) to (3.5mm to 2.5mm) converters work? would plugging in two different converters on the same line work? or do you get an rca to 2.5mm jack converter?

Thanks

Thanks Sl8er,that is really helpful :)
I didnt get it yet drukkie,so i guess im bot screwed.maybe i'll stick to the simpler stuff.
Thanks alot guys,maybe i'll just get the EasyCAP.Problem solved.Thanks

LOL GPSJane,i actually have no idea.
I just went with EasyCap,got it working.I did notice some stuttering and dropped frames, but thats because of my hardware im guessing

Either way,i am all sorted out as far as video capturing goes, now i just need to figure out the sweet spot between hardware and software settings.
Once again,Thank you all

Glad you got sorted ;)

If you have another look at the back of your decoder you will find that it has three co-ax connectors but they are not the old type as per your TV card. They are F-connectors and they are labelled LNB-In, RF-In and RF-Out. The LNB-In is your areal cable from your dish, the RF-In is for the areal cable from your analog TV areal and the RF-Out is the lead that you would take to the areal socket on your TV or your TV card in the PC. Hope you get everything working OK.
