I saw a few users post that they had one of these units and are impressed.

I just want to ask is it fast and responsive?
Is the GUI a decent resolution, with more than 256 colours?
Is it stable?

I've got a Pinnacle Showcenter 200 which I've used for 3-4 years and it was alright, but the user interface wasn't the best and the worst thing about it was the speed and lag!

Hi Dolby

It's pretty responsive, remote works fantastic - which is very important. I had the Zioncom/ipTime/playtime before this and the Tvix is much better with the remote and general responsiveness.

The GUI looks great on a 42 inch plasma, although I'm not sure about the colours - because it currently has a silver-ish scheme. It is customisable, but I haven't tried it yet. There's plenty of experts on www.mpcclub.com to help you out.

With regards to stability, I've had no issues yet after a couple of months of pretty intense use. I've even set up wireless networking to copy new files to the Tvix - works great (I'm a noob :p).

As with all these players, it is primarily a video player. Yes it does play music and photo's, but the functionality isn't all that great (e.g. slide show option, playlist creation etc.). All the development work goes into the video part of it.

Also has great internet support.

Will I buy it again? Absolutely! I did extensive net research and the only other NMP I would choose is the Popcorn Hour. It is less expensive, but I liked the Tvix look :D and general feedback received.

BTW I did look at the HDX1000, but the only place I could find it was hum.co.za. After several e-mails and several days with no reply I lost interest.

Cool - ordered mine :)

Should arrive tomorrow ...

Price for these babies? That Popcorn Hour looks OK to me...

I'm getting it at R4595.00 - with VAT and express delivery to JHB. Doesn't seem too bad, as online shops have them at almost R4800.00 just for the unit

I assume that's excluding a hardrive? What hardrive you plan on using with the unit?

That is a good price. Share your supplier please...

No HDD ... I bought a 500GB Seagate a few months ago which I'm not using - so I'll use that in the unit.

I got it direct from the importer. They have a special running till end Jan at that price. Th standard RRP for M6500A is R4789(incl of vat),

I must say these guys are awesome ...

I made payment yesterday via EFT to their account at 10am ... and my TViX was delivered not even 24 hours later ;)

Machine looks awesome - everyone in the office is drooling - but I'll only be home tomorrow to play with it :(

You'll get a report soon ... hehe

iris99 : Do you find the software rather simple?

I have both a Logitech Squeezebox and Pinnacle Showcentre 200 (with Swisscemter Software) that I though I may be able to replace - but they have much better software than the TViX I'd rather keep them!

Unless I'm doing something wrong, there seems to be no pretty graphics, no search funtion at all *gasp* or no extra features at all.

With the Pinnacle, I could seatch many different ways for different media (year, title, genre, name etc), have thumbnails (All ID3 information on screen when playing) and even check the weather (syncs with JHB weather online)

It seems it's more of a video player only - than a full media player.

@Dolby

I don't have much experience with NMP's, other than the Zioncom one - the Tvix interface is way better. It works for me.

I do see ID3 info for music?

With regards to thumbnails etc, afaik it is customisable - there is a wealth of knowledge and expertise at www.mpcclub.com - try them.

Cheers
