We are helping to collect data on the streaming quality of Twitch in South Africa.

The next time you use Twitch, it would be great if you could help test "Source" quality, and state what the best quality stream is that you can comfortably watch on your Internet connection.

When reporting your experience, please answer the following questions:

  1. What Internet connection and ISP are you on?
  2. Stream watched?
  3. Were you able to watch the stream in Source quality without buffering?
  4. At which quality setting could you watch the stream comfortably?
  5. Did the video buffer at the quality setting in (4) at any point?

If you want, feel free to include screenshots or transcribed data from the video stats overlay.

Example report:

  1. What Internet connection and ISP are you on? SmartVillage 8Mbps (8Mbps down, 8Mbps up)
  2. Stream watched? Alkaizerx
  3. Were you able to watch the stream in Source quality without buffering? No (1920x1080)
  4. At which quality setting could you watch the stream comfortably? High (1280x720)
  5. Did the video buffer at the quality setting in (4) at any point? Yes

3. Were you able to watch the stream in Source quality without buffering? The website doesn't load at all through the day.
4. At which quality setting could you watch the stream comfortably? None. After midnight, low (but it stutters a little)
5. Did the video buffer at the quality setting in (4) at any point? Yes

Stream watched? ESLCSGO
Were you able to watch the stream in Source quality without buffering? No

Did the video buffer at the quality setting in (4) at any point? No

Livestreamer through VLC runs Source without buffer though.

I will add though that at times Source works flawlessly but on average the above results are seen.

Stream watched? bostossmc playing StarCraft II
Were you able to watch the stream in Source quality without buffering? Surprisingly, yes
At which quality setting could you watch the stream comfortably? Source
Did the video buffer at the quality setting in (4) at any point? Not even once

Afrihost has really stepped up their Twitch streaming with Afrigreen.

Ran stream for around 1 min each setting with details below.
Source : Buffered 4 times
High : Buffered 3 Times
Medium: Buffered 2 times

Source : Buffered 4 times
High : Buffered 2 Times
Medium: Buffered 1 time
