Twitter suspends alt-right accounts

Twitter suspended a number of accounts associated with the alt-right movement, the same day the social media service said it would crack down on hate speech.

Among those suspended was Richard Spencer, who runs an alt-right think tank and had a verified account on Twitter.

The alt-right, a loosely organized group that espouses white nationalism, emerged as a counterpoint to mainstream conservatism and has flourished online. Spencer has said he wants blacks, Asians, Hispanics and Jews removed from the U.S.

Twitter on Tuesday removed Spencer's verified account, @RichardBSpencer, that of his think tank, the National Policy Institute @npiamerica, and his online magazine @radixjournal.

"This is corporate Stalinism," Spencer told The Daily Caller News Foundation. In a YouTube video, entitled Knight of the Long Knives, an apparent reference to the purge of Nazi leaders in 1934 to consolidate Adolf Hitler's power, Spencer said Twitter had engaged in a coordinated effort to wipe out alt-right Twitter.

"I am alive physically but digitally speaking there has been execution squads across the alt right," he said. "There is a great purge going on and they are purging people based on their views."

In a statement, Twitter said: "The Twitter Rules prohibit targeted abuse and harassment, and we will suspend accounts that violate this policy."

It declined to comment specifically on the suspensions, which included the accounts of Paul Town, Pax Dickinson, Ricky Vaughn and John Rivers.

Twitter was the platform of choice for the campaign of President-elect Donald Trump and the alt-right political movement that embraced him. The alt-right used social media to spread its cause of white supremacy, operating largely unchecked by social media giants Twitter and Facebook.

These nubs deserve to be banned for the level of hate they spew. I just find it funny that any BLM group spewing the like is untouchable. Get rid of them all and it's harder for any of them to spread their BS innit

Once I see the dregs of both sides being banned then this gets my approval.

Unfortunately the whole of Twitter seems to be a sea of "targeted abuse and harassment".
 
Richard Spencer of all people got banned, so it's almost certainly targeted. He is very polite and even tempered.
Twitter is full of worse people saying worse things.

The Twitter that made BLM a special activist emoticon to show their solidarity? Yeah, I don't see that happening. Their company and their language policing board are overrun with progressive activists and lobbying groups. I don't use twitter anymore, I'll wait for an alternative. The death of twitter and similar relatively easily replaceable online services will be sweet.

The corporate sector must be shown what can happen to them when they align themselves with that political ideology.

Ignorance is bliss. However I suspect it is wilful ignorance, which is guaranteed to drown the person.
 
They targeted the ALT right. Not hate speech or people calling for violence. Which there are a lot after the election... no the alt right.

Next please ban trump so he can accidentally wall you off too. :crylaugh:
 
Stronger censorship rules will only further diminish Twitter's relevance.

We do know. It's a mandatory and defining criteria. Just as much as having issues with reality and human individual agency is.

They are different sides of the same coin. Only one is being targetted by the main stream media which feeds into the alt right perception of an anti white bias and makes a mockery of the BLM claims of "systematic oppression".

When you can get away with the hatred the BLM people have been responsable for, in a majority white controlled country, but you can't say some of the timid stuff Richard Spencer says.......what the obvious conclusion to be made ?

The left still fails to recognise that their obsession with controlling the narrative is exactly what got them into this mess in the first place.
 
Mainstream media continues to try and engineer what we see and hear.

Then they wonder why their chosen candidate lost the election.
