Twitter vs Facebook vs MXit

I'm a little lost? This is how I see those three:

Twitter - Great mini data feed but communication is open to all parties to comment on.
Facebook - Social, profile tool. Security allows distribution of rich media to friends and family.
Mxit - Social IM chat tool. This is basically used for chatting and can be limited to a single recipient.

All three cater for different needs within the social spectrum, I wouldn't really say they compete with each other. I would say that Mxit, Googletalk, BBM , Whatsapp compete but those in my mind are all similar techs and tech uses whereas the three in the article are not even though they crossover with certain uses.

Am I alone in missing the point here? Donkeys, ships and rockets can all be used as means of transportation, but comparing them is as pointless as t!ts on a goose.

I tend to agree, Mxit actually has some sort of facebook integration (update your fb status through mxit) if anything mxit works with facebook in some aspects

wow, well my community and friends is the opposite, the awesome thing is many of my friends now have bbm if they dont they get whatapp and we still get to chat, but i suppose mxit is still in the hearts of many, did the trick till my BBM came along...

I don't see how this news is surprisingly.

Anyway, a lot has changed in my friend base. The majority now use BBM/WhatsApp for IM, a very large portion use Twitter and of course almost everyone has Facebook.

I wonder how they conducted the research. Are they basing it on logs / site hits, or is it merely based on questionnaires (which may have been focused on the youth)?

Jeez, I feel like an old donkey. I still use IRC. 0_o ..... on my phone.
