Two new fibre contenders

Sounds too good to be true. And I don't quite understand how Telkom is involved in this and we never heard from it before, even though it seemingly is at a more advanced stage than even EASSy (which ironically has been everything but easy).

I'm just sick of waiting. Bah! In two weeks its a vac to Germany. An uncapped 16Mbit pipe awaits.

Bwahahahahahahah.

Grrrr Mr Admin I was busy editing that. Be patient.

The second is WAFS, a Telkom South Africa-managed project that seeks to connect South Africa to Nigeria to relieve capacity problems on SAT3.

Aren't Nigeria's charges far below Telkoms? Is this just a ploy to connect SA to Nigeria and reap the cheaper prices for INT Bandwidth? Doesn't telkom own more capacity then Nigeria? If so how would this relieve the capacity? Someone in the know-how please shed some light on this

LOL! Yeah, I'll think of you all while I "suck the inta-net dwy" and beat the endboss.

Diabeetus?

Edit to add:
It seems like the one cable will only connect us to some other countries on the west coast. When's the last time anybody here downloaded something from Nigeria?

Oh yipee

The first is an ambitious initiative to create a Southern African fibre network on the back of the South African Power Pool transmission network.

enough said...so now Nigerians can steal our bandwith as well as our credit card info and scam us out of money twice as fast as usual...oh yipee.

I think I have the solution.

With a direct connection to Nigeria, the deluge of Nigerian spam mails will be on a direct connection to SA as a whole, thus saving a large portion of SAT3 bandwidth that would otherwise have to be dedicated to these international scam artists. :D
