I aim to completing my first ever Two Oceans in March, in fact it will be my first ever half marathon. Any of you guys have suggestions on where I can do some hill training. Pretty comfortable on a flat road, but any incline and I tale strain. Suggestions. Thanks

SIgnal hill, lions head hill, devils peak hill, table mountain.

All the best!

Newlands forest. Plenty of short uphills separated by flat stretches - if you go sideways along the slope. Once you get fitter, aim up more.

Why not try run the actual hills in the race?

When I ran it, that run up Constantia killed me!!

Go run Southern Cross at least 3 times. At least psychologically you'll be aware of how long it is for race day.

It's not that hard, will be my second one. Your biggest killer on the Two Oceans is your seeding. Last year I was a B and this year I have been downgraded to a C cause I'm not that focused on running. What seeding did you get?

So who is joining me on this coming fine and rainy Saturday morning at 6am in Main Road?

If one has to run to where the two oceans meet, you'd need a few days to be doing so. Two Oceans...just the Atlantic at Cape Town. Indian- and Atkantic oceans meet at L'Agulhas, not anywhere near dear old Cape Town. Yet estate agents in the south peninsula even advertise a property offering exquisite views on two oceans! They have wines and an aquarium bearing that doubled-edged moniker.

Come on, Cape Town, we need to stamp out fraud and corruption in SA. Faking an ocean and priding yourselves in a missing sea is a tad radical, isn't it?

Ask the Chief Hydrographer of the SA Navy if you are in doubt!

:D :D

Red Hill - Simonstown... nice and quiet and challenging. Another nice quiet one is at the old marine's training school near Simonstown... return via Dido valley hill.

Otherwise see how long it takes you to ascend Platteklip gorge on Table Mountain. Use that as your yard stick to see how you are progressing (do it once a month).

Plenty of hills in and around Simonstown if you have the time to drive there.

Tell you guys what, if you can run the 2 oceans half in less than 2 hours perhaps then I'll listen to what you are saying.

Loved it. Was my 2nd time on the half and I think my official time will be about 1:46 since I started in C. I am not running fit at the moment, more focussed on cycling.

Sub 2:30 is awesome, you should be proud of yourself. Actually anyone that goes the full 21km has proven what they are made of.

So you going again next year? Don't forget the Safari half on the 1st of May.

Will definately be back next year! Doing the Knysna half in July which is apparently amazing. Next year looking to smash a sub 2 :D

Also did my first two oceans half this weekend (and first ever half). Did 2h35, so not as fast as you guys. Loved every minute though. Can't wait for next year. And any other races in between.

Was going for a 1:45 this year and on the 5km mark or so my knee gave in :( went through the last 16km in agony, but still finished in 2:29

I can highly recommend the Safari half marathon on the 1st of May, this year will be my 3rd time. For more check out : http://www.runnersworld.co.za/race-calendar

Doing a half marathon in less that 3 hours is a pretty good achievement. People often let the word "half" mislead them about the effort you have to put it. I can't remember how many half marathons I have done but this weekend I was reminded again that you can't put in half the effort, running 21km is very demanding.
