Bloemfontein - A 35-year-old man was left in critical condition after he was mauled by two pit bulls in Waverley Road, Bloemfontein, on Monday, paramedics said.

Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics had found the man under a tree at around 12:45 on Monday.

"The man had sustained major facial trauma with both ears ripped off, as well as severe trauma to the left leg and arm," Botha said.

He said paramedics had worked tirelessly to stabilise the man at the scene, before he was transported to a specialised hospital.

Further information about the incident was not immediately available.

What is that supposed to mean?
The fact that chihuahuas are the most aggressive dogs. The problem with that line of thinking is that chihuahuas don't do any real damage where with pitbulls the potential for damage is huge.

Just remember the pertinent fact is they were dogs, that they were pitbull dogs is just purely coincidental.

Actually it's not. Pitbulls are more aggressive than other breeds. They aren't the type of dog you can leave to do their own thing and have to handle them correctly. Sadly most people don't have the knowledge and just get them for the novelty. It is bound to happen again and again because of this.

Reminds me of last week as I was walking home late in the night there were three dogs roaming in the road and two of them looked like pitbulls. So I looked for a rock or anything to defend myself in case they tried anything. Safe to say nothing happened as I passed them.

Guess they weren't real pitbulls after all.

Yup, they're great dogs, if given the special attention and handled correctly.

Two Pit Bulls were walking on the sidewalk one day on their way to the supermarket to buy groceries.

They see a guy and kill him.

It's not about attacking at every opportunity. It's more to do with unpredictable "moerstrip"/flip-a-lid and what happen then. Some dogs will run up (or from a distance) and bark, others might approach with intent to cause bodily harm.

Some dogs are more likely than others to do the latter.

I hope they find the owner, and put him and the dogs down.

Erm, the article hardly gave any information. Like how did they knew the guy was mauled by pit bulls if they just found the guy on the street?! It could be a burglar that jumped a wall, got mauled and jumped back to safety for all we know. And in that case you can hardly blame the pit bulls. But without any more information we are all just speculating...

True, could be.

Ignore, just another Pit bull sympathizer.

Nah, I don't even own a dog or have special liking for dogs. I don't recall harming a dog nor being excessively nice to them either.

FInd guy under a tree mauled up. Off course it had to be pitt bulls....
How do they figure that out. Could be a couple of poodles but the guy too ashamed to admit that. Off course he will state the most vicious dog he know.

That report should not have been placed without more details.
