THE peace of a quiet suburb in East London was shattered yesterday when a man allegedly shot and critically injured two other men trying to rob him of cash.

The dramatic incident took place just after 4pm in Dawn, near Wilsonia, when two robbery suspects allegedly followed a man who had just drawn cash from a bank back to his home.

Minutes later the man, who police did not name, was accosted by the two men, both armed with firearms, who demanded money from him.

Apparently, the two had followed the man from East London’s CBD to his house as he told police he recognised them after seeing them at the bank.

Police said the man tried to defend his family as the suspects started to behave angrily, allegedly demanding that he hurry up and hand over the cash.

“The man’s daughter, who is between 7 and 8 years old, was at the house and saw what was going on and tried to warn her father,” police said. “The two suspects tried to push her around and the man produced his firearm and shot towards them.”

Seeing that the man was firing towards them, the two tried to flee. “Four shots were fired and one of the suspects was shot in the head and the other one in the back.

“Their condition is critical.”

The man then called the police . A few minutes later police arrived and ambulances were also called.

When the Daily Dispatch arrived just before 5pm, the suspects were still being treated at the scene, outside the yard of the house, by emergency paramedics.

There was blood everywhere, and the house was cordoned off so police could prevent anyone from entering the crime scene.

A resident, who gave her name only as Bukelwa, said they were happy about what the man had allegedly done to the two suspects. “ These people followed from the bank to his house, imagine that. Are we safe? This will be a lesson to all the suspects out there who are a danger to our community. This country is full of criminals.”

The two injured men were rushed to Frere Hospital.

Attempts to speak to the man who allegedly shot the suspects were unsuccessful as he was too traumatised to talk and remained in his house.

A family member, who would not identify herself, said the man could not talk to the media as he was recovering from shock.

“It was self defence as his family was in danger. Now he realises he has shot people and it’s the first time that he has fired a shot at a person,” she said.

Police couldn’t be reached for comment last night. - By BONGANI FUZILE

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha. Were they trying to rob him with only their bare hands?

Both of the robbers had firearms.

Oh missed that. Now I look like an idiot who doesn't even read his own posts. Maybe they weren't serious. This guy still refused to give the money even with guns pointed at him. Only his daughter was threatened did he lose his temper. Father of the year candidate IMO.

:D Good story though. I love hearing about the pain, suffering and death of criminals.

But it must take long and be painfull and they should get a superbug and start to rot..
They will, thanks to the state of public health care these days. ;)

Shot in the head and is 'critical'. Amazing. You literally need to "bomb" criminals to get rid of them these days. He'll probably survive after some brilliant Dr will successfully remove the bullet.

Attempts to speak to the criminal who was shot in the head was unsuccessful as he was too traumatized to talk and remained in his house. ha ha :D

(Unreal Tournament 2004 announcer's voice) HEAD SHOT!

On a more serious note, congratulations to the shooter for giving these thugs some justice. Let's hope they both end up 6 feet under.

How did he manage to pull out his gun and shoot them when they were armed? Did he already have his gun on him and pulled it out when they weren't looking?
He deserves a medal.

From what I read, it seems that for a split second their attention was focused on his 7yo daughter who was causing a scene, and that was the gap he took to feed them some lead. Good going!!!

unfortunately this man is looking at jail time as he shot one of them in the back it no longer counts as self defense (as how could his life be in danger) which is utter bs but the way it works
//i HOPE that the criminal piece of **** was running towards his daugther when he took the bullet to the back so that it can still be a defence arguement

What does the law say? He shot one in the back?

There's going to be trouble - shooting a perp in the back is not self-defense.

Will have to see what happens now.

As I understand it, you're only allowed to shoot if the perp is coming towards you, not running away.

Probably argue he shot at the one dude and hit the other cos his aim was bad :P

Okes were armed and he fired... i rate he should be fine.

I feel sorry for the guy...he did not want to shoot them but he had to. If crime does not kill you, you end up with the trauma of having to live with shooting/killing criminals...whichever way you look at it, it's just not right.

But yeah, the less criminals alive, the better.

He could argue that he was afraid they were going to fire as they were running away.. as was the case with me...
I was chasing a guy and he emptied his 9mm short mag while running away from me. without even looking.
I bullet hit the pavement and then ricocheted into my leg... needless to say, he was shot twice in the back...

So it all depends on the circumstances.... lets hope they don't send the wrong person to jail....

Just can't go killing off the electorate without repercussions .
