Say I have two 3G iPads; Can I purchase the R2499 100gb prepaid deal, and then ask for 2 sim cards? Or is a data package restricted to 1 sim card?

If that is the case, can anyone recommend the best way around that/an alternative deal that supports 2 or more sim cards?

Telkom Mobile provides a Multi-SIM Service/Product.

Up to 4 SIM's @ R9 per SIM on a month-to-month Contract

This is not an answer to your question, but gives you 2 alternatives which may or may not work for you:

  • You could sign up with Afrihost mobile, and just purchase 2 x 1GB packages. So you'll get 2 SIM cards. You then top-up via the ClientZone as and when you need. Or purchase enough upfront (i.e. choose the right size package) per SIM card to get you through the month, and thereafter you topup as you need. You won't need to drop 2.5K all at once, and you're not committed for such a long time (wait till the Cell C network goes pear-shaped in your area and you're sitting with data that you can't actually make use of). Afrihost is month to month. It also allows you to monitor the usage of each device via the ClientZone and via the app.
  • You could also sign up for 1 Afrihost SIM card, and then stick it into a miniature MiFi 3G router (Afrihost sell the Huawei E5331). You can then share the internet connection over WiFi.
