Two ways Linux can win market share from Windows

I hope I get to see this day. I love linux and think it is a pitty that a good system like this is not widely used. I agree with the points mentioned....but think the hardware vendors would do well to get behind linux a but more also. HP...how about releasing 2 - 3 entry level laptops as certified by Ubuntu that it works 100%. I would buy such a laptop for sure...would remove the hassle of formating the HDD and installing Ubuntu :-)
 
I agree on the second point.....

Gaming is what's keeping me from moving over, full time, to a linux platform.
My family has become familiar with ubuntu and are not afraid to use it on a day to day basis. I know I can use Wine for gaming but I would feel more comfortable if games had native linux support e.g. I walk into a store, purchase a game, pop it into the DVD-drive, install and play.... I ,only, wish games companies could see the light.

As for Antowan first point, totally agree..... Ignorance on the part of the teachers must be sorted, when they see a pc they think Windows[M$]. I think most of us remember that fiasco where a teacher thought a kid was distributing illegal software and she didn't even know that linux was free.
The linux foundation could also visit schools to meet teachers and kids, enlightening:D them about linux and the benefits of free software.....
 
Agree with haxxor, the only thing that is preventing me from a complete switch to linux is the lack of support by game publishers. I want to be able to pop my game in and play, not have to use Wine or something similar.
 
I reckon, having been playing with a new Linux setup on my proxy, that a big issue is how technical things can get.
For general office use, it's perfect, being quick on even bottom-end machines, but as soon as you start doing something even remotely technical on it, it has a huge learning curve. I'm sure absolutely all answers can be found online, but this stupid attitude that a lot of Linux-gurus have where they say something along the lines of: "Yes, I know the answer to your question, but I'm not going to tell you what it is. Instead, I'm going to point you to this 100 page document to read through", is absolutely frustrating.
You may still live with your parents and not have a job which allows you to spend so much time on something trivial, but a lot of people don't.
