Tyre advice

Runflats are very uncomfortable.

If you have an issue on the road. Pray you have a spare tyre, unlike the current BMWs'.

Most places outside a big city centre can not help you.

Most will not repair them.

Therein lies the rub. In outlying areas like rural KZN, Eastern Cape & Mpumalanga one has a reasonable chance of hitting an enormous pothole that could destroy two tyres. Having just the one spare will not suffice. By the same token, from what you are saying it seems that those outlying areas will also not be able to repair.

Still, I'd rather have the capability to drive to the closest town than be stuck between.

I used to argue that any plain old cheap tyre would suffice, that was until I had to replace the tyres on my Corsa. I decided to go with a reputable name, Continental, and my word... they are much better than el-cheapos. I can, for example, be a lot harder on the brakes without the ABS interfering.

Yeah. I once put an el cheapo set on. "...made in the same factory as...".

I had them taken off the same week. Driving over Sir Lowery's Pass in the rain was scary.

Decent tyres provide you with generally better braking and road holding, lower wear rates and noise, but with wet weather driving there is a night and day difference.
