Hey guys,

After having my FR tyre burst on me this past friday it seems that I'm in the market for a pair of new tyres. Do you guys know of any great places with awesome prices and service in JHB. Got a quote of R2k for two 15" tyres and a wheel lock set. .This the going rate? And what brands should I be looking at?

Also wanted to ask: What are the chances of a tyre blowing after just 4 months. Never overinflated or under-inflated,, Thoughts?

And finally : Do you guys know of any places in JHB that can repair my mag rim? When the tyre burst it damaged the rim a tad while the car kept moving as I tried to control it.. Nothing too serious but I'd like to get all this sorted in one go. Thoughts?

2k sounds high for 15s. What brand?
I would go with something from Tiger Wheel and Tyre, like Hankook. Get their x-sure insurance as well - then any damage to the new tyres and they get replaced for the cost of the tread you've used.

Mag repairs I take to Rivonia Tyre.

maybe more detail
like full tyre size and brand will help

Tyre prices have increased a lot over the last couple of years.
I paid R1500 for two 205/55 R15 Hankooks Ventus tyres and that was 3 years ago so I wouldn't be surprised if they're closer to 1K each now (fitted and balanced).

225/40/18 Ventus V12 Evos are around R800 each now ...

I paid about R650 each for 4 tyres (15 inch Continental) from Supaquick on Beyers Naude. Maybe your other tyre had expired - which caused it to burst? I was told that tyre's have life of about 4 to 6 years - you can see the manafacturing date if you look for an oval with 4 numbers in it. The first 2 numbers indicate the week the tyre was made, and the last 2 indicate the year.

please tell me where i need a set like last week
last i checked it was about the R1400 mark

I'd also like to know because I can't find any half decent 215/50 17" tyres below R1100 per tyre.

Waiting to find out... But I think I may have been mistaken. R1200 is the number coming to mind now. R800 was for the p zero neros for my old car.

Are you claiming from insurance? It wasn't normal wear and tear damage so it should be covered.

My cab has 275/35/19's.
I have had 2 blowouts (potholes) and claimed both times from Outsurance. They paid out with no issues. Second time they also had the mags fixed/polished/etc...
Try get yours sorted through your insurance.

I'll give insurance a call later on today. Didnt know that was even an option. Thanks guys
