Tyre Questions.

My car came out with Continentals (which I'm not a big fan of) so at my first tyre replacement, I switched to Hancook (couldn't get Yokohama at that time) and I must say... so far I'm impressed. Was a bit sceptical at first because of the price in comparison to "normal" brands.

Bought my 2 Yokohama tyres today. Was on special for R1500 per tyre (18"). It is however the A Drive which is like the "entry level" sport tyre of Yokohama, but still not bad.
The Hancooks were about the same price, but they didn't have stock.

Next quote was for Good Year at R2000 per tyre and after that I had my pick of Pirelli or Michelin at R3300 per tyre.
Prices are shocking.

Just found out my dad has a brand new continental that he bought a little while ago that was just missing a spare rim. Still going to buy a full set sometime this year but this certainly helps my budget.

IMO a Tyre is a Tyre is a Tyre...
(as long as it's not re-treads)

Depends on the car. On 15" and smaller, I'd agree, but as soon as you start moving to the higher end cars with sport tyres (or perhaps even 16" and upwards), it makes a big difference, especially in wet conditions. General road holding and the tyre lifetime is also affected by quality tyre used.
