Tyre replacement - Which brand

It's that cheap when they do partial alignment. It will only be the front wheels and also skip the camber adjustment. You won't know unless you ask, but they will charge extra to add camber adjustment and then again extra to do rear wheels and again extra to do camber on them. Can go up to over a R1000 one you do that. But most people won't know, they think they get a bargain at R250/300 and move on with incomplete alignment.
Exactly. I get mine done at the dealer. Car is weighted and takes over an hour. But the difference between that and a tire shop alignment is night and day.

This is the type of advice that gets you into random accidents in Cape town when it rains. Seen it many times.

Also felt it on a car where I had cheap hard compound tyres on the car when I bought it second hand. Would slip on hospital bend in 4th gear. Changed to good continental tyres and van do the same without slipping.
I never said cheap and I never said second hand. Maybe the reason you were aqua planing was due to the tyres not having any thread left or some other problem.

To the Op: Research the tyres you want to buy, consider your driving habits, your car and buy the tyres that suit your needs. Everyone will have different opinions on tyres as everyone has different driving habits. I purchase for longevity but not cheaply, my tyres last purchased was R12,000 including wheel alignment.

Car was second hand... You didn't read.

Tyres were new cheap Bridgestone and was new when previous owner bought them. They still had plenty of thread on them.

Still it's a hard compound tyre that will last very long. It's just a horrible tyre.

Not a wannabe f1 driver. Thinks his tyre buying choices are "super soft" "soft" "medium" "hard".

The tyre salesmen must have a great time with you.
