Uber charges are erratic

My daughter often uses Uber for University. I noticed that often there will be a charge quoted and when the trip is over there will be another charge, always higher. At times the difference is significant. On one occasion it was almost twice as much.
The help features on Uber are designed to be evasive on some issues, like this one.
Does anyone else experience this and possibly know the reason why it does this.
We have used Bolt a few times and never experienced this change in tariffs.
 
Yep depends on how long the trip took, if it took longer because of traffic , you get charged more.

Worse I had was overseas, 70 pound quote, finish trip 150 pounds :(
 
This is unfair. Surely they have the tech to determine traffic conditions like Google maps. And based on this should be able to give a more accurate quote at the beginning. Already one notices different prices during peak periods. But for the price to change after the trip is unfair and Uber should at least absorb some of the cost if the trip took longer than expected. Sometimes the drivers also make slight detours to the suggested route based on their own experience of traffic which may also result in higher prices at the end. Does anyone have a contact number for Uber South Africa or an email address.
I hate the HELP feature as it forces you to choose one of their preset issues
