Uber Eats' eight-minute delivery timer allows drivers with ill intent to steal orders

Pedros half chicken and chips or paella rice is about R75 if you buy in store, the Uber markup is about R35, plus service R5 and delivery R15 so grand total R130, almost double the price, crazy!!

I'd go and order at store directly, but closest shop is about 15km away...

Is your food cold every time it arrives?
 
Only use them when in a pinch, otherwise order online/via-call and collect, saves a lot of money and less chance of a F'up

My pizza once arrived upside down in the box, the guy clearly enjoyed flying over the speed-humps, only noticed after he left, it was too late and we were too hungry, I now check before they leave
 
I call, then collect. It is quicker and cheaper.

I only do delivery from Rebels Pizza when we are not in the mood to drive there. Delivery is R15 and the food is hot on arrival.

Mr D does not see us as the food always arrives cold.

I've stopped ordering from most places whose markup is extortionate. Harder and harder to find anything half decent or of value without paying a hefty markup.
There is Uber One, where you can save on service and delivery but not sure what other perks there are like specials, offers, better prices? Guess that is the way to go for R50 a month if you order at least 3 times a month.

Most of my food arrives luke warm at best, but it is middle of winter and the delivery bike boxes are not exactly well insulated, so usually end up nuking in microwave for 60s.

It isn't laziness, it is convenience and making better use of my time.

Although I never use Uber Eats since I place very little trust in the Uber company. I prefer to use Mr D.

If you phone them before you go on lunch, and walk there, by the time you arrive they'll have your food ready. This means that you get to 1.)walk around a bit 2.) get out of the office 3.)eat somewhere that co-workers aren't 4.)saved money and 5.)didn't support these vultures.

Although, using a phone for calling can be intimidating for some. Those people deserve to starve.
 
As a delivery driver myself, these are force allegations. The driver doesn't have an option to start the timer in the app, the timer starts it self the moment the driver arrives at the customers address, during this 8 minutes countdown Uber will call the customer to let them know that the driver is outside and when the timer has expired without the customer showing up Uber will ask the driver to end the trip.
 
I used Uber eats quite a bit. I am also a Uber one member which in my opinion is 100% worth it. Even if you only order maybe 2-3 a month. You make that money back in 1 order.

I don't use them to order anything accept specials. You can get some decent food at good prices. I once ordered also Rebels pizza for the family that visited me. Got a bunch off as they have a 30% off offer always running and free delivery with uber one. Saved R100+ on just that one order

Yeah, I've used them about say 2x per month for the last 2 years while working from home and I've never had a driver steal anything, at worst you get one that doesn't read and struggles to find me.

Personally some days I'm just busy and its much easier than going out by myself, but even then I check the menus, some places tack on a lot more to their prices than others.

Funnily enough I signed up for the free Uber One last month, so you save about R30 per order (no service/delivery fees for those that don't know). I then canceled it this month but they counter-offered by giving me 90% off for another 2 months.

I guessed the same as you, at around two orders a month Uber One will be a tiny bit cheaper than without.

I've ordered and a few times didn't get my meal. Each time I was fully refunded.
