Uber Eats vs real menu prices – Tested

So how is M&B doing it ?

PS:Reminds me of the current discussion around tipping / not tipping and how the M&B employees earn only from the tips
 
So restaurants/fast food outlets charge between 10-25% extra on top of delivery fee.

And with the attitude of many of the delivery drivers ( kak!) , i've stopped even giving a few bob in tips.

Let the restaurant reimburse the drivers for the additonal business they received through my order...don't expect me to.
 
McD food prices are even worse ,and R15 for delivery.

This has ALWAYS been the way things are done since like forever.. when I was doing MrD delivery over a decade ago, the cost on menu was more than the actual cost excl delivery fee.

So yah.. if you didn’t notice then then I dunno.. don’t say you are detailed orientated in your interview

With regards to store based delivery.. typically they pay the drivers lesser or same as waiter staff (and you often assist with some stuff) and survive on tips (unless out of the 2-5km range and then u get extra.. yip worked as this too when in Cpt, land of underemployment). Some at a fixed, % delivery fee or factor into staffing cost.
 
People forget that there is infrastructure cost associated with order handling.. ie iPad or other system integration, call centre, billing, idle staff (not with Uber, lesser with MrD), breakage etc.

why they do a % is a bit questionable though.. technically there is a fixed cost which lessens with economies of scale so when market traction gained it’s more profitable.. but who knows.

that must have sucked, working as a delivery driver delivering food,
always wondered what those guys get paid, minus all the expenses on a car/motorbike.

also , sure there are better days, and worse days.
how one survives on that for long is difficult to believe.

MrD prices are significantly more than the menu prices, and their time to delivery at your home is at least double the time it takes an average Uber Eats delivery. MrD basically had a monopoly in this space, especially in Cape Town... MrD are going to have to sharpen their pencils if they intend to keep up with UberEats...
 
Your pricing on the Big Mac is wrong, it's R41.50 in store as well, not sure where you got R47 from.

I'm sure they do/have done and will continue to do so...
I've moved on to home cooking more frequently....tastier anyway and cheaper.
 
I don't mean to state the obvious: if you don't like the price, don't order via MrD Food/Uber Eats
 
I prefered Ubereats to MrD simply because I could actually see where the driver was on the app and how far he was so I could wait outside for him to deliver.

But I have actually stopped using delivery apps now because I have had it a couple of times now where they have got the order wrong and the driver just claims that was the order they gave him and now you sit with a third party who knows nothing about the "missing items" complained a number of times to uber eats with no response or acknowlegement.

also one time it took over an hour for my driver to deliver Steers to me, apparently he had an issue with his "phone and App" (I could see him on the app driving all over the place).

I just think it is easier now to go and order, pay, check and collect the food myself (and save money)
 
Get off the damn couch and collect your own meals.
Imagine if you buy a meal for 4 people.
You could save a fortune.
