Uber faces ban

Two months after the ride-hailing app Uber was introduced in Denmark, the country’s transport minister has said the service likely will be banned

Magnus Heunicke says the concept of car drivers acting like taxi chauffeurs and communicating with potential customers via a mobile application was “contrary … to what we can be allowed in Denmark.”

They want Danes to evoid the taximan.

Uber seems to be fighting a massive uphill battle everywhere.

With the exception of the price gouging I read about over New Year's Eve, it looks like a pretty good service. Whip out smartphone, plot your route, get a price and taxi comes to you via GPS. That's pretty awesome if you ask me.

It's not like Uber doesn't do a lot of due diligence on their drivers. You need a PDP, operator's card, proof of roadworthiness, criminal record check and proof of insurance.

This is what will make me never use them.

It is just supply and demand. New Year's Eve is the perfect time for surge pricing. During a terrorist attack or directly after a municipal transport accident though, no so much.

Personally I use em all the time. Very convenient and besides, you can track the approximate price via the app can't you? Have never had problems with these guys and they have saved my bacon (and bank account) from these other scaly misfits sitting in the dark with their flashlights and blue lights

Nope, just greed.

The purpose of surge pricing is to incentivize more drivers to be on the road, to increase the overall driver base and make the taxi's available. Otherwise the drivers take New Years off and people wait hours for a lift.

What other method would you suggest that would actually increase the number of drivers?
