At Uber, we are constantly looking for new ways to increase your take-home earnings, for this reason, on Thursday, 7th of April, at 5PM, we will be reducing the fares on UberX across South Africa. UberBlack and UberXL pricing will NOT change

I like!

I'm sure drivers / owners aren't happy ...

Hopefully thy won't just drive slower.. I had one uber drive me down a 120km/h highway at 90km/h

According to Uber ,

Remember: Uber’s interests are aligned with all partner’s interests; if your earnings don’t increase, neither do Uber's.

You have every right to tell them to drive the speed limit on that highway.

Most people (like you) don't realize 120km/h is the maximum, not the minimum allowed speed. Doing 90km/h on a highway is not only safer for the Uber driver in the long term, but his passengers too.

Didn't complain as it was from one ramp to 2 ramps later and end price was inline with expected cost so did t bother to complain.

Other tactic I've seen is them sitting at drop off point but ending the ride 10-15 min later.. That annoyed the crap out of me and I complained about it to Uber

Had the same thing happen to me.
Complained and got the full trip credited to my profile :)

I have had this happen with a new driver who I think forgot to end the trip, and in another case where I know he was having signal issues. Uber were quick to refund the entire trip when I complained.

I had the other with a new driver when he started and cancelled as I got in the car.

I gave him R50 cash and asked him to take me home (7km). He probably pocketed and it's wrong bypassing the system, but I just wanted to go home

I had a similar issue with a driver not being able to even start a trip, and he offered to take me for free which was nice. I told him to contact the office to log a manual trip.

It is a tiny reduction, but it helps.

Regarding them driving at 90km/h - doesn't matter too much as the variable that influences the cost of an uber trip the most is distance, not time. Get them to use the shortest route possible in terms of distance and it will be cheaper than if they took a route that is quicker in terms of time.

I tried to complain about something else once but every time I got a response to my email it was from a different employee and I had to reexplain my story all over again. That, and the fact that each person was just as bad as the previous person at listening to what my problem was.

I have also had this experience with the support line, and did get quite frustrated, but asking to escalate the issue to a team manager quickly resulted in a resolution.
