Uber under attack in South Africa

Reports of violence flaring up between Uber and metered taxi drivers have abated over the last year or two, but this could be attributed as much to the safety measures put in place by Uber as to the placation of the metered taxi industry.

Uber users in Johannesburg would have noticed changes to Uber's systems in areas where intimidation from metered taxis has historically been a problem.

So is it safe to use ride sharing apps at durban and cape town international?

Ja. I use Uber in Cape Town International and around Durbs south beach nearby the hotels - actually right in front of hotels by metered cabs. I have seen no incidence or had any problems with Uber or Bolt except in Jhb.
In Greenpoint when I was last there in March this year, the metered cabs wanted to charge the same as Uber. This was at V&A and the guys were willing to negotiate with me. I like how civil they are in Durbs and CT.

*Edit. In KZN International (King Shaka), I use airport shuttle services to get to the city. Much cheaper than Uber and reliable, safe. There are a few of them and before my flight I phoned them for advice on where/when to wait for the bus to make my flight at King Shaka. I waited and the driver got there at perfect timing. We were down supporting out pal for the Comrades (June) and went everywhere in Uber or Taxify/Bolt. Durbs is safe to use those.
