Do you have the controller running 24/7?

I've had a suspicion that handover is only handled correctly if the controller is running to monitor clients and shift them.

When it isn't running the AP's operate by themselves in a stand alone fashion.

But never got around to testing it.

Yeah, I have the UniFi Cloud Key Controller.

I suspect that makes the difference.

The AP's in and of themselves are pretty dumb. They need the Controller to really function fully.
 
Thanks guys for the help, I think I'm gonna try two AC LR's and see what coverage is like. I will keep my asus and see how well it handles the unifi setup.

Now I'm deciding if I should get the cloud key controller? Will it make a big difference for my setup?

Do you have a PC running 24/7 anyway? Then you don't need the controller.

If you have the ASUS somewhere in the middle of the house then the two AP's at the extremes should do the job.

However you haven't started the square meterage unless I've missed it. LR's might be too much and turning their power down would effectively make them the much cheaper normal units.

Thanks sauronza, appreciate that. I'll start with two AC lites and forget about the controller.
 
You only need the controller running 24/7 if you planning to use the guest network function, so no need for a pc running 24/7 if you not using that function
