Ubuntu’s Pangolin polish

The picture of a robotic animal is that of a Chameleon, not a Pangolin.
Not very precise reporting.

complaints about the new interface. For many the switch to the new Canonical-created Unity interface was forced on them at a time when Unity felt incomplete. But, over the past year the interface has matured significantly

Am I the only one who found 11.10 less stable than 11.04. I must have reported 10 bugs already.

The most ambitious plan of all, however, will be the attempt to reduce Ubuntu’s start time from around 10 or 11 seconds to just two seconds.

What's with the obsession over boot times? Am I only one that never switches off their computer/notebook?

Exactly. And who boots any more? Just suspend and resume.

unless you use an ATI graphics card - I installed shell and had artefacts all over my menus- a common problem according to a google search.

This is bad news for me. If this is the case then I'm switching to Mint for the foreseeable future.

u are talking about Gnome Shell in 12.04 development version, right? If you tried installing Gnome Shell in 11.10, then yes, you will experience that problem. Unity and Gnome Shell for some reason do not gel well.
If you want Ubuntu (without Unity) but a good rendition of Gnome Shell in 11.10, install PinguyOS 11.10 (beta right now, but stable).
